\n\tAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez is shutting down Jake Paul<\/a>\u2018s assessment that Bad Bunny<\/a> isn\u2019t a real United States citizen after the YouTuber dissed the Puerto Rican superstar\u2019s Super Bowl<\/a> Halftime Show on Sunday (Feb. 8).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe morning after the Big Game, the New York representative replied to an incendiary post from Paul on X<\/a> \u2014 in which he declared he\u2019d be \u201cpurposefully\u201d turning off the official halftime programming due to Benito being a \u201cfake American citizen\u201d who \u201cpublicly hates America\u201d \u2014 and wrote Monday (Feb. 9), \u201ca \u2018fake American citizen?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDidn\u2019t you MOVE to Puerto Rico to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry?\u201d AOC continued. \u201cMeanwhile Benito actually funds low income kids\u2019 access to arts and sports programs, while you defund them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Bronx native closed out with: \u201cOf course you\u2019re mad. He makes you look small.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBillboard has reached out to the boxer for comment on AOC\u2019s reaction.<\/p>\n

\n\tPaul was one of countless conservative figures upset with the choice of Bad Bunny for this year\u2019s Super Bowl headliner, with President Donald Trump calling the performance a \u201cslap in the face\u201d<\/a> to America, and Turning Point USA going as far as hosting an alternate<\/a> \u201cAll-American\u201d mid-game concert on Sunday. Many have also run with the narrative that the six-time Grammy winner is un-American, despite him being a legal U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico, which is an unincorporated territory of the United States.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut after receiving backlash for his \u201cfake American citizen\u201d comment \u2014 including from his own brother<\/a>, Logan Paul \u2014 Jake backpedaled. \u201cTo clarify: I wasn\u2019t calling anyone a \u2018fake citizen\u2019 because they\u2019re from Puerto Rico,\u201d he wrote Monday morning. \u201cI live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico \u2026 But if you\u2019re publicly criticizing ICE who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I\u2019m going to speak on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShortly afterward, the professional boxer \u2014 whose Boxing Bullies charity has renovated 24 U.S. gyms and aims to make boxing more accessible for kids across the country \u2014 posted, \u201cGuys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my twitter last night ?? wtf.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s still unclear where Jake and likeminded conservatives got the impression that Benito \u201copenly\u201d hates America. The musician has only ever said the opposite, and at the end of his halftime performance \u2014 which paid homage to his Puerto Rican roots while welcoming guests Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin \u2014 he held up a football displaying the message, \u201cTogether we are America.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBad Bunny has criticized ICE, but only sparingly. In September, he explained<\/a> to i-D that there \u201cwere many reasons why\u201d he didn\u2019t schedule any tour dates in the U.S., but \u201cnone of them were out of hate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere was the issue of like, f\u2013king ICE could be outside [my concert],\u201d he elaborated at the time. \u201cAnd it\u2019s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd, a week prior to the Super Bowl, the hitmaker said while accepting best m\u00fasica urbana album fpr Deb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos, \u201cBefore I say thanks to God, I\u2019m gonna say ICE out!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re not savages, we\u2019re not animals, we are not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans,\u201d he added from the award show\u2019s stage. \u201cThe hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love.\u201d<\/p>\n
