Carlton<\/a> champion Peter Dean has been rushed to hospital after he was found unconscious on a footpath in Albury.<\/p>\n

Dean, a star for the Blues across the mid 1980s and the 90s, was allegedly attacked on Monday night in Albury\u2019s town centre.<\/p>\n

The incident happened at about 8pm AEDT when Dean, 60, was collecting takeaway food.<\/p>\n

He allegedly saw two people attempting to break into a car and decided to speak to them.<\/p>\n

After a brief conversation, he reportedly left the scene.<\/p>\n

However, he was then followed and allegedly attacked.<\/p>\n

He was found unconscious on Smollett St with bad injuries to his head and face.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing inquiries by detectives from Murray River Police District, police arrested a 17-year-old male,\u201d a police spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was taken to Albury Police Station. The young person will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dean was a brilliant defender for the Blues and played in premierships in 1987 and 1995.<\/p>\n

His son, Harry Dean, was drafted by the Blues with pick No.3 last year.<\/p>\n

Peter is revered at local club Lavington Panthers and coached the under-18 team to a flag last year.<\/p>\n

Panthers president Peter Barwick said the players were just \u201cdevastated\u201d by the news.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just devastating that it could happen,\u201d Barwick said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe told the players last night what had happened and they were just devastated.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s such a down to earth bloke. If you didn\u2019t know him, you wouldn\u2019t know he had been an AFL player.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll he\u2019s worried about is making sure the kids he coached all turned out to be good kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dean no longer coaches at the Panthers but helps out with the Murray Bushrangers (who play in the AFL\u2019s Talent League competition).<\/p>\n

He is reportedly in a stable condition.<\/p>\n
