Aspinall has been in and out of hospitals since getting brutally eye-poked by Ciryl Gane<\/a> during their UFC 321 fight on October 25th, 2025. What an Abu Dhabi doctor initially brushed off as trivial turned out to be bilateral Brown\u2019s syndrome, which affects the muscles or tendons in the eyes and can cause double vision.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter his highly publicized eye poke injury, Optegra\u2019s expert team is proud to have supported MMA fighter and UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall,\u201d the statement read. \u201cOver recent months we\u2019ve been working closely with him on his recovery. He added a gif from the Michael Jackson Thriller video implying he looked like an undead zombie \u2026 and we can\u2019t say we disagree with that assessment.<\/p>\n Aspinall has been as transparent as possible<\/a> through this entire debacle with his eyes because some people are still acting<\/a> like he faked his way out of fighting Ciryl Gane after the eye-poke, which was one of the worst looking examples we\u2019ve seen in twenty years of covering the sport. Even other UFC fighters got into the accusations, with fellow heavyweight Waldo Cortes-Acosta mocking<\/a> Aspinall by wearing an eye patch.<\/p>\n We\u2019re hopeful Aspinall will make it back into the cage and make everyone eat their words, but for now it\u2019s clear he needs time to recover from this latest procedure.
