Channel Nine has confirmed it has received legal costs from former AFL player and sports presenter Warren Tredrea.<\/p>\n

Tredrea was ordered by the Federal Court in September to pay $149,000 to his ex-employer<\/a> over a long-running legal battle between the parties, and was yesterday given an imminent deadline<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2024, the former Port Adelaide footballer and 2004 AFL premiership captain lost an unfair dismissal case against Nine, where he had worked as a sports presenter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tredrea claimed his contract was terminated because he had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, but the Federal Court accepted Nine’s counter-argument that his position was not going to be renewed because of his performance in the job.<\/p>\n

He later lost an appeal against the court’s decision and was subsequently ordered to reimburse Nine’s legal fees for the appeal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tredrea had insisted he had “fully discharged his liability” to pay the costs by issuing a “promissory note”, but the note was not accepted.<\/p>\n

The Federal Court heard Nine emailed Tredrea a bankruptcy notice in December seeking the money owed for legal fees relating to the appeal.<\/p>\n

In court on Tuesday, Tredrea lost a bid to dispute the notice and was given a deadline of 4pm to make the payment.<\/p>\n

The network today confirmed to the ABC it had received payment.<\/p>\n
