{"id":473128,"date":"2026-02-11T15:55:25","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T15:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/473128\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T15:55:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T15:55:25","slug":"bathurst-return-for-title-winning-mclaughlin-falcon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/473128\/","title":{"rendered":"Bathurst return for title-winning McLaughlin Falcon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Falcon in which Scott McLaughlin charged to the 2012 Super2 title will make its racing return this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Chassis SBR FG01 has not been active since car owner Jason Gomersall ran it at the 2022 Super3 finale in Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>With McLaughlin making a guest appearance at that event, Gomersall opted to return the car to its #93 Fujitsu livery from a decade earlier for the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Having since spent three years dormant on display, the car headed to Queensland Raceway in December for a shakedown ahead of Jason\u2019s son <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2866-Ben-Gomersall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Gomersall<\/a> driving it in the Combined Sedans support category at this weekend\u2019s Meguiar\u2019s Bathurst 12 Hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI parked it after the last time I raced it a few years ago in Adelaide \u2013 it has actually been up at the Gold Coast Motor Museum and has been sitting there,\u201d Gomersall Sr explained to V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/News_McLaughlin_93_4-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-104223\"  \/>Scott McLaughlin and Jason Gomersall inspect SBR FG01 at the 2022 Adelaide 500. Pic: Supplied<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I just wanted to put it on track (at QR) to make sure everything was fine. It ran faultlessly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea is to give Ben some more Bathurst laps in a Supercar, you can\u2019t get enough of those. So it\u2019s no pressure, just a casual fun weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sort of doing the same thing with my 6 Hour Mustang, getting some Bathurst laps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we\u2019ve sort of found that even though it sounds like you get a lot of practice at the 6 Hour, by the time you split it across three drivers and have yellow flags, red flags, you actually don\u2019t get a lot of laps before race day. So this way I\u2019ll get the car to myself and hopefully get a few laps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/2026-meguiars-bathurst-12-hour-official-program?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2026-12-hour-program_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It will give the father and son a chance to compete against one another, albeit in markedly different equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ll get anywhere near him. He\u2019s in a Supercar and I\u2019m in a production car and he\u2019s probably a bit quicker than me anyway,\u201d smiled Jason Gomersall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just told him, \u2018don\u2019t crash into me\u2019.
