Kennedy Jr. <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7288915\/cdc-covid-19-vaccines-pregnant-women-children\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced that healthy children would no longer be advised<\/a> to receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7317480\/covid-19-vaccine-access-fda-states\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">COVID vaccine<\/a>, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released its own vaccine guidance that recommended the shots to all children under 2. It was the first time in 30 years that AAP had issued vaccine recommendations that substantially differed from U.S. government guidelines. <\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-text mb-6 self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\" data-testid=\"paragraph-content\">As the 2025 president of the AAP, Dr. Susan Kressly has challenged the Trump Administration on health-related policies that she and her organization\u2014which represents 67,000 pediatricians\u2014deemed harmful to children and their families. \u201cWe felt that we had no choice but to act, because if we didn\u2019t stand up to protect the health of children, who would?\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-text self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee mb-0 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\" data-testid=\"paragraph-content\">Under Kressly\u2019s leadership, AAP sued HHS and Kennedy twice in 2025: first over the changes to COVID vaccine policy and Kennedy\u2019s decision to replace members of a key federal vaccine advisory panel, and next to challenge HHS over its decision to cut millions of dollars in federal grants to AAP.
