U.S. insurers <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7014894\/how-to-appeal-health-insurance-denial\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deny<\/a> some 850 million claims every year and that number is growing, Bokhari says, and fewer than 1% of people appeal. \u201cFor cancer patients, if you have a one-month delay in treatment, that&#8217;s a 10% drop in your survival,\u201d Bokhari says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-text self-baseline font-graphik text-body-large text-black-coffee mb-0 focus-visible:outline focus-visible:outline-black-coffee focus-visible:outline-2 focus-visible:outline-offset-2 focus-visible:shadow-focus-color text-left\" data-testid=\"paragraph-content\">Bokhari\u2019s solution is Claimable, a startup he co-founded and launched in 2024 that uses <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7327299\/using-ai-chat-gpt-tips\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a> to help patients and providers appeal health-insurance denials for a growing list of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6253592\/severe-asthma-patients-anxiety-symptoms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">asthma<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/7206816\/bmi-diagnose-obesity-new-method\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">obesity<\/a>. Patients pay Claimable a service fee of around $50 per appeal.
