{"id":47477,"date":"2025-08-06T09:23:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T09:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/47477\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T09:23:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T09:23:11","slug":"asic-close-to-approving-cboe-australias-bid-to-break-asx-monopoly-capital-brief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/47477\/","title":{"rendered":"ASIC close to approving Cboe Australia&#8217;s bid to break ASX monopoly \u2014 Capital Brief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The news: Financial regulator ASIC is in the final stages of considering a listing market application from Cboe Australia, which could end the ASX&#8217;s stock exchange domination.<\/p>\n<p>The context: ASIC said in in a statement on Wednesday afternoon that it is &#8220;in the final stages of considering a listing market application from Cboe Australia, a subsidiary of Cboe Global Markets&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>If finalised, Cboe Australia would be able to facilitate public listings of companies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalbrief.com\/article\/the-global-exchanges-jostling-for-australias-next-gen-companies-998ecffe-8649-4cab-b82d-e88c4d5dd824\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on its own market<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ASIC said this would be expected to &#8220;enhance competition and attract foreign investment, providing more choice for investors and greater international alignment&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Cboe Australia, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalbrief.com\/article\/meet-the-exchange-boss-taking-on-the-asx-d2c247f7-28c2-4a7e-aba0-5439f1bef37d\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">began operations<\/a> in 2011 as Chi-X Australia, currently provides trading in ASX-listed securities and other exchange traded products on its own market.<\/p>\n<p>ASIC is also in the midst of approving additional foreign markets to enable &#8220;Australian investors to participate in certain transactions in these markets&#8221;, deepening Australia&#8217;s integration in the global financial system.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion includes Cboe\u2019s US and Canadian exchanges and the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalbrief.com\/briefing\/nsx-to-be-acquired-by-canadian-securities-exchange-b1ffa40e-2e3c-4460-87c1-312b42433bfc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prospective acquirer<\/a> of the National Stock Exchange of Australia (NSX).<\/p>\n<p>The regulator also said that it is exploring measures to streamline dual listings of foreign companies in Australia to attract international businesses to Australia\u2019s public markets.<\/p>\n<p>What they said: &#8220;This is important work.
