{"id":477102,"date":"2026-02-13T10:19:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T10:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/477102\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T10:19:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T10:19:09","slug":"increased-risk-major-health-alert-for-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/477102\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Increased risk\u2019: Major health alert for city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Health authorities are warning NSW residents to be on high alert for symptoms of measles after four new cases were identified across the state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Three of the cases have not travelled overseas and acquired their infection within NSW.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cTwo of these locally acquired cases have a link to earlier NSW cases and the source of the third remains under investigation,\u201d NSW Health said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The fourth case returned from South East Asia, where there are ongoing outbreaks of measles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The four cases visited several locations across the state while unknowingly infectious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Among the locations include healthcare facilities and locations in northern, south eastern, and south western Sydney, Illawarra Shoalhaven, western NSW and the mid north coast.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Measles viral disease, human skin covered with measles rash, vaccination concept\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/6541c493aea89c17d56a616483282b31.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Health authorities are warning NSW residents to be on high alert for symptoms of measles.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Measles rash. Picture: Supplied<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">There is currently an \u201cincreased risk\u201d of measles in NSW, with 14 cases confirmed since the start of 2026, NSW Health warns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Director of Communicable Diseases NSW Dr Christine Selvey said people should monitor for symptoms of measles, particularly if they have visited any of the exposure locations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIf symptoms develop and you\u2019ve been at one of the locations at the time listed on the website, see your doctor or health service, including an emergency department.
