WHAT\u2019S SO SPECIAL ABOUT IT?<\/p>\n
Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co. has created an ode to the giant trees of our South West with a West Coast IPA boasting giant flavours.<\/p>\n
The Wilyabrup-based brewer \u2014 which also has taphouses in Rockingham and Vasse \u2014 has released The Giants, the first in its new West Coast series honouring the best of WA, in this case the giant red tingle trees of the South West region.<\/p>\n
The towering eucalypts are the stars of the Valley of the Giants treetop walk near Walpole.<\/p>\n
The Giants is a bright medium-bodied West Coast IPA.<\/p>\n
It pours a clear golden colour with a creamy head that slowly dissipates.<\/p>\n
Cracking the tinnie, there is an immediate hit of citrus on the nose, backed up by pine and resin, with the inclusion of Idaho 7 hops giving it the appropriately deep, dank forest floor aroma.<\/p>\n

When you take that first sip, that strong citrus flavour is upfront, providing a sharp citrus taste rather than the juicy vibes of hazy IPAs: think grapefruit, orange zest and a bit of lime.<\/p>\n
The heavy-hitting hop bill of Centennial, Idaho 7, Citra, Cascade and Simcoe means the piney, resinous hop character builds, with subtle stone fruit and tropical hints.<\/p>\n
There is a pithy bitterness to give it an intense hop flavour but a light malt sweetness underneath to balance it out.<\/p>\n
This smooth drop has a dry and crisp finish, with lingering bitterness and dank.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a truly tree-mendous addition.<\/p>\n
SHOULD I SHARE IT?<\/p>\n
With a 5.9 per cent ABV, The Giants has a big taste that\u2019s ideal for sharing but the refreshing taste makes it perfectly sessionable.<\/p>\n
