Pinterest shares tumbled 21% to their lowest since the 2020 pandemic lows after the image-sharing \u200cplatform&#8217;s weak forecast showed that major advertisers are pulling back spending \u200cjust as <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:AI tools;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI tools<\/a> threaten to upend the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">The company&#8217;s quarterly revenue projection fell short because of \u200blower marketing spend by large U.S. retailers grappling with tariff-induced business uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Pinterest is also rebuilding its sales teams after company-wide layoffs of under 15% last month that were meant to power its AI pivot but fell flat with investors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Competition for advertising \u200cdollars is also heating up \u2060as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/organizations\/openai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:OpenAI;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI<\/a> tests ads in ChatGPT, and Google rolls out features that allow consumers to buy products while looking for AI-powered \u2060answers in search and its Gemini chatbot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">That adds to a crowded field where brands are already favoring established players such as Meta and TikTok, which now exists as \u200ba separate \u200bentity in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">Pinterest&#8217;s results were also \u200bin contrast to the upbeat \u200cperformances from Snap and Reddit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">&#8220;Pinterest is constrained by legacy monetization models amid a rapidly evolving AI landscape,&#8221; said Lenny Zephirin, CEO of market research firm Zephirin Group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">The platform &#8220;retains some differentiation through visual discovery and shopping-focused ad formats, but these advantages are unlikely to fully offset competitive pressures,&#8221; Zephirin added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">If the losses hold, this would \u200cbe the second straight quarter Pinterest shares \u200bhave fallen more than 20% after its quarterly \u200bresults.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">The company is set to lose \u200bmore than $2 billion from its market value of $12.52 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">The company \u200ctrades at 9.49 times the estimates \u200bof its earnings for \u200bthe next 12 months, compared with 9.42 for Snap, 29.99 for Reddit and 21.41 for Meta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">At least 24 brokerages cut their price targets on \u200bPinterest&#8217;s stock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-vbsvxt\">&#8220;We&#8217;ll probably see \u200cAI-powered Pinterest clones from Meta, OpenAI, and Amazon soon,&#8221;
