{"id":478462,"date":"2026-02-14T01:05:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T01:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/478462\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T01:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T01:05:10","slug":"sculpture-by-the-sea-anton-lord-returns-with-mammoth-installation-at-cottesloe-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/478462\/","title":{"rendered":"Sculpture by the Sea: Anton Lord returns with mammoth installation at Cottesloe next month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A Claremont artist will be returning to this years Sculpture by the Sea, this time with a huge interactive piece inspired by Australia\u2019s golden landscape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Self-described as an \u201cartist stuck in a scientists body\u201d Anton Lord is putting the final touches on his sculpture \u201cGolden Fields\u201d \u2014 a 200sqm piece spanning over six meters tall \u2014 before the famous exhibition returns to Cottesloe next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt\u2019s a fairly large piece, and encourages people to actually walk in and around it, as opposed to fold their arms and furrow their brows from afar,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">A technologist by trade, Lord has been creating exciting sculptures for years, exhibiting large-scale immersive pieces where engineering and art intersect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI come from a technical field, and audio has been a large part of my life,\u201d Lord said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/ea66c2775efb744bd58b8f0ae0c7652780ab138c.jpg\" alt=\"Artist Anton Lord in his home studio with prototypes of his sculpture.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconArtist Anton Lord in his home studio with prototypes of his sculpture. Credit: Stuart Quinn\/The West Australian<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">His piece from the 2023 Sculpture by the Sea, titled Whisper Tree, was another large installation piece made up of diaphanous speakers, which would sway in the wind like a giant wind chime suspended from the tree.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cI\u2019ve always tried to have some kind of direct technology based interaction, or even passive interactions through the wind, moving something or touching other involvement,\u201d Lord added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">And this year is no different, Lord said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/436892b5d28a48b581e38685a4b4599c843bb22b.jpg\" alt=\"Artist Anton Lord in his home studio.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconArtist Anton Lord in his home studio. Credit: Stuart Quinn\/The West Australian<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cEssentially it\u2019s a massive grid of tall, vertical elements with some natural movement in it. So at a distance, it reads like a field but up close there\u2019s some details and a few surprises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Lord said the piece was inspired by Australia\u2019s landscape, the golden straw that exist grasses of the coastal dunes to the cereal crops of the Wheatbelt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Made out of aluminium, Lord said he fell in love with the material during a project last year incorporating an anodised piece.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cIt has a finish quite unlike any other material.
