\u201cAs I sit here right now, I\u2019ve got two thoughts. One is I feel for \u2018Goody\u2019 (Goodwin) \u2014 this only happened yesterday. When you\u2019ve been a coach, you\u2019ve got great empathy for other coaches in those situations that Simon\u2019s found himself in. So, first and foremost, great empathy for him,\u201d Longmire began on Wednesday night. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe second thought I\u2019ve got is, I can\u2019t be 100 per cent definitive on what the future holds. And I\u2019m not trying to dodge the question … what I can be definitive about is I\u2019ve really enjoyed this year. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve enjoyed the fact that I\u2019ve actually spent more time on myself, I\u2019ve spent more time working on another part of the business that I\u2019ve been incredibly stimulated by, but I\u2019ve also spent more time with my family. <\/p>\n
\u201cI haven\u2019t had the need to think about anything other than that, and I\u2019m still in that position as we speak today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Longmire owns a 63 per cent win rate as a coach, having led the Swans to the 2012 premiership and five grand final appearances. <\/p>\n
The veteran mentor relinquished his position as Sydney coach following the club\u2019s 60-point grand final defeat at the hands of Brisbane late last year. <\/p>\n

Longmire was probed by host and respected commentator Gerard Whateley if he\u2019d contemplated whether he\u2019d be open to coaching again at some stage. <\/p>\n
\u201cI haven\u2019t thought about it, Gerard \u2014 I hope you understand I\u2019m not being cagey about this, I just haven\u2019t allowed myself to think about it, because I\u2019ve had other thoughts going on and other things in my life that I\u2019ve tried to be present with,\u201d he told Fox Footy. <\/p>\n
\u201cI spent so many years thinking about what I needed to do, the next step, the footy club \u2014 and I\u2019ve just tried to be a bit more present this year in what I\u2019m actually doing with my family in particular. <\/p>\n
\u201cI hope you understand I haven\u2019t had the time to fully formulate what that may or may not look like, and at the moment, I\u2019m loving what I\u2019m doing, and I\u2019m staying present in that. Now, if that changes, well, I need to have a think about it at some point, maybe. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut at the moment, it hasn\u2019t changed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked by former Demons captain Garry Lyon asked if he\u2019d consider an approach from the Demons, Longmire said: \u201cWell, it hasn\u2019t happened yet, Gaz, and when it comes my way, I guess I\u2019ll contemplate what I do then, and I hope you respect that approach as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, 2018 premiership coach and Fox Footy analyst Simpson explained the complex situation he and Longmire find themselves in. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really difficult; you think it\u2019s a simple answer, it\u2019s not,\u201d Simpson began. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo block out any type of thought of contemplating getting back into coaching. You just refuse to think about it, because you\u2019re dealing with what you\u2019re doing now \u2014 like, I want to be good at this, I want to be good at business, I want to be good at some of the consultant stuff, I want to be a good parent. You\u2019re living in the moment. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, to think about, 24 hours after someone\u2019s lost their job, it actually hasn\u2019t been in our minds. And I\u2019m not speaking on behalf of \u2018Horse\u2019, but we\u2019ve had a couple of conversations about this \u2014 it\u2019s not as simple as you think.\u201d<\/p>\n
Simpson compared his situation as a recently departed mentor to those such as Western Bulldogs assistant Daniel Pratt, who itch for their first senior coaching chance. <\/p>\n
\u201cDaniel Pratt, I think he\u2019s probably ready for a coaching job,\u201d Simpson said. \u201cHe\u2019s 10 years in the system, coached in the WAFL, coached the women\u2019s (team), all that sort of stuff. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, he\u2019s done, like I did, the preparation, the list analysis, who would I bring with me, what\u2019s the board like, what\u2019s the culture like, are we aligned … and you\u2019ve done all that work, and you\u2019re going \u2018just please ring me and ask me, I\u2019m ready\u2019 \u2014 whereas we\u2019re not in that space.\u201d<\/p>\n
Simpson concluded: \u201cUntil you really start thinking about it, which we both haven\u2019t … it\u2019s not unfair, but taking the phone call is like, that doesn\u2019t mean anything. <\/p>\n
\u201cOnce and if it happens, then you go \u2018well, what\u2019s really going on here?\u2019 So, I suppose that\u2019s starting to come into my mind, but it\u2019s this much compared to what it would be for someone who\u2019s desperate and ready to go. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, it\u2019s a little bit early to go \u2018take a phone call or not\u2019 \u2014 it\u2019s not as black and white as you think.\u201d<\/p>\n
