It took less than half an hour for the first major injury in Origin\u2019s return<\/a>, with star Carlton defender Jacob Weitering going down heavily in the first quarter on Saturday night. <\/p>\n

Weitering was crushed under the bodies of Western Australia\u2019s Mitch Georgiades and Victorian teammate Sam Collins after a marking contest at half-forward. <\/p>\n

Play between the two sides was halted for several minutes while the 28-year-old gun interceptor was tended to by medical staff. <\/p>\n

Weitering was placed in a neck brace while being stretchered off the field, with initial fears of a concussion and possible neck injury. <\/p>\n

However, as the second quarter got underway, Fox Footy\u2019s Kath Loughnan provided an update that Weitering was hospital-bound with his shoulder and ribs the main concerns. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe is going to hospital as a precaution for his ribs and that left shoulder,\u201d Loughnan said in the second quarter. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was nearly probably 200 kilos falling on him and that left shoulder and his head. So, fingers crossed for Jacob Weitering.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s down. He\u2019s out,\u201d Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall said in immediate reaction on Fox Footy. <\/p>\n

Brisbane icon Jonathan Brown added: \u201cHeavy landing \u2026 full weight of Collins and Georgiades onto him, hopefully his shoulder is OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

Caller Anthony Hudson said what everyone was thinking: \u201cIt\u2019s what we all feared.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunstall later said: \u201cIt looks like a serious concussion, doesn\u2019t it? \u2026 We don\u2019t like seeing any sort of concussion, but if there\u2019s going to be one, let\u2019s hope it\u2019s at the lower end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown responded: \u201cThere\u2019s a head aspect, but the way he landed on his shoulder as well, you hope that he hasn\u2019t done any structural damage to his left shoulder. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about 200 kilos coming down on top of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reporting from the boundary line at Optus Stadium, Loughnan initially said there\u2019d be no firm Weitering update until post-match. <\/p>\n

\u201cJust been speaking to Victoria, obviously we\u2019re all concerned about Jacob Weitering – they\u2019re not going to give us a proper update until after the game, but he\u2019s in the best of care right now, obviously,\u201d Loughnan said. <\/p>\n

The 204-game All-Australian has been a durable commodity for the Blues in recent years, playing 22 or more games in four of the past five seasons. <\/p>\n
