(ABC News: Grace Burmas)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Businesses supplying illegal products will not be able to operate for certain periods of time, and as we&#8217;ve seen in other states, criminal behaviour significantly reduces when closure orders are in effect,&#8221; Health Minister Meredith Hammat said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The legislation would also increase the maximum penalty for possessing a commercial quantity of illicit tobacco or vaping products to 15 years&#8217; imprisonment, and lift fines to $4.2 million for individuals and $21 million for companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Under the current rules, maximum fines are $20,000 for individuals and $80,000 for companies, with no offences carrying potential imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Record illegal tobacco seizure<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;WA Health&#8217;s expanded tobacco and vape compliance unit will continue to investigate and initiate raids on premises selling these illegal products, and Western Australian Police through Taskforce Maverick continue to make impressive gains against serious and organised criminal gangs,&#8221; WA Premier Roger Cook said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"WA Premier Roger Cook speaking at a media conference with microphones in front of him and blurry people in the foreground.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/d0fe8ffd87ede111ac786e03a0e28d6e.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">WA Premier Roger Cook says &#8220;impressive gains&#8221; have been made in the fight against illegal tobacco.
