According to The Age<\/a>, former IT manager Sy Giang Nguyen, who\u2019s accused of defrauding up to $14.5m from genU \u2014 which offers senior services \u2014 spent more than $3,300 on luxury Munich hotel suites for then-Geelong stars Joel Selwood and Mitch Duncan during an off-season trip. <\/p>\n

Nguyen\u2019s purchase is set to intensify scrutiny over whether the AFL\u2019s probe into Geelong\u2019s soft cap dealings from 2019-24 was extensive enough. <\/p>\n

Just four months ago, Geelong was hit with a $77,500 fine<\/a> \u2014 with $40,000 suspended pending further breaches \u2014 for a series of administrative errors centred on the non-disclosure of third-party payments following an AFL audit. <\/p>\n

The league in 2024 identified \u201cpotential compliance issues\u201d<\/a>, which prompted a wider investigation. <\/p>\n

Per The Age\u2019s report, the organisation of the two hotel rooms was done by Stuart Coffield, another Cats benefactor and the managing director of Geelong Travel. <\/p>\n

Coffield is said to have booked the two Mandarin Oriental suites for Britt Davis and Demi Miles; the long-term partners of Selwood and Duncan. <\/p>\n

According to the report, which does not suggest wrongdoing by Selwood, Duncan or their partners, Nguyen used an American Express platinum card to pay $3,340 to the German hotel. <\/p>\n
