Credit: AAP<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Senator Hanson then nodded her head after Markson\u2019s intervention and said \u201ccorrect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">But Mr Burke was among voices urging Senator Hanson to apologise on Tuesday, labelling her comments as \u201cwrong and cruel\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThey are comments not worthy of someone who holds public office. Please just apologise,\u201d he said in a statement to X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Taking to social media on Tuesday afternoon, Senator Hanson doubled down by sharing a video of her full interview and accusing the media of having misplaced shock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cSome media is trying to claim I went on some kind of \u2018tirade\u2019 last night. I guess they aren\u2019t used to hearing a politician tell the truth without worrying about political correctness,\u201d Senator Hanson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThe fact is we have to ban the importation of radical Islam that hates western society, freedom of speech and equality before the law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cAustralians only need to look overseas to Europe to find out what happens if you go soft on radical Islam coming into your country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cVetting the people who come into the country from terrorist hotspots is almost impossible when they subscribe to an ideology that encourages lying to non-believers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It comes as debate brews in Australia over immigration as the Liberals get set to release their long-awaited policy, developed under Sussan Ley before she was deposed by Angus Taylor on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Details of Ms Ley\u2019s previous unreleased immigration policy had been leaked to the media on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It outlined a proposal to ban immigrants from terrorist hotspots alongside several Trumpian-like measures to tighten the border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Mr Taylor and his supporters had cited poor polling results under Ms Ley as a reason to move against her, particularly due to the surge in support for One Nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">When asked about Senator Hanson\u2019s comments during a press conference in Melbourne on Tuesday, Mr Taylor celebrated the Muslim community in his electorate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cI know many good Muslims. They\u2019re in my electorate. I\u2019ve got many and we had a wonderful man Sam Kayal, a Muslim running for us at Werriwa, right next to my seat at the last election, a wonderful Australian who believes deeply in Australian values, and what this country can offer people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cBut, I say again, people who want to come to this country who don\u2019t share the core beliefs who don\u2019t believe in our way of life, who want to bring hate and violence from another part of the world will not be welcome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cAnd it doesn\u2019t matter what the race or religion\u2026 the test is whether they believe in our way of life and accept our core values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">One Nation has maintained a consistent, long-term platform of drastically reducing immigration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The leader famously wore a burqa into the Senate in 2017 and again in 2025 to raise her views to curb immigration, ban full-face coverings and increase national security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) president Imam Shadi Alsuleiman condemned Senator Hanson\u2019s comments on Sky in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cWe strongly reject Pauline Hanson and her party\u2019s stance on Muslims. Her comments reflect a serious misunderstanding of Islam and the Muslim community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cFor many years, she has made inaccurate and harmful statements based on misinformation rather than genuine engagement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThese kinds of divisive remarks undermine social harmony at a time when Australia needs unity, mutual respect and responsible leadership more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">He also extended an invitation to Senator Hanson to engage directly with the community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Senator Hanson had appeared on Sky\u2019s evening program to discuss the potential return of so-called \u201cISIS brides\u201d who are Australian women \u2014 all partners of Islamic State members \u2014 in Syria following the Islamist group\u2019s collapse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">The Federal government has denied they\u2019re a part of the repatriation efforts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Senator Hanson expressed that she was \u201cso furious\u201d about the women potentially returning to Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThey shouldn\u2019t come here. If we\u2019re going to open up the border and let more of them into the country we\u2019re going to suffer. I\u2019ve said that right from the very beginning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cAngus Taylor wants to appear as if \u2018right, I\u2019m in tune with the Australian people\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cHe will never go far enough, either will the Libs, because the moderates won\u2019t allow him to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">In the wake of contentiously favourable polls for the minor party, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday downplayed One Nation as a lasting political threat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">He accused them of being historically unstable and on the precipice of a disarray between \u201ctwo very egos\u201d in Senator Hanson and new recruit Barnaby Joyce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen it before. We saw it in 1996, she was elected and then 1998 she won double digit number of seats in Queensland. No one made it to two years. It all collapsed,\u201d the PM told ABC News Breakfast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThat has tended to be what has happened. And we\u2019ll wait and see what the relationship is between Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce in a couple of years\u2019 time. Two very big egos put in one melting pot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9czhig-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cLook, people are quite clearly frustrated and they\u2019re particularly frustrated with issues of government.
