Australian singer Darren Hayes<\/a> has shared an update on his recovery after suffering a blackout fall that could have been fatal.<\/p>\n

The Savage Garden frontman<\/a> last year revealed he experienced three fainting spells in which he lost consciousness, causing him to fall and break his jawbone in half.<\/p>\n

He also shattered nine teeth.<\/p>\n

Hayes, 52, recently underwent a scan which revealed a new problem, he said in an update shared over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m fine, this was before my MRI last week to check on my brain since my accident,\u201d Hayes posted, alongside a picture of him in a hospital gown and mask.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll normal except they found skull fragments floating around my brain lol.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m OK, more than OK.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough would not repeat the last year if given a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hayes detailed the frightening sequence of events when he first spoke publicly about the ordeal in April.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn March 17, two months to the day after my mother passed away, I had a terrible accident,\u201d Hayes posted on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been trying to keep it private but my lengthy recovery period means it\u2019s easier to admit the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI lost consciousness \u2014 I fainted shortly after getting out of bed and collapsed three times, losing consciousness each time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half. I woke up in a pool of blood, terrible pain in the left side of my head and with nine teeth shattered.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so lucky I was found and taken to the amazing team at the emergency room of St John\u2019s Providence in Santa Monica, where they acted quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could have died if I landed in a different position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hayes\u2019 jaw was wired shut to allow the bone to heal.<\/p>\n

He clarified he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he fainted.<\/p>\n

The singer ended his statement on a hopeful note.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to my loved ones for coming to my rescue and to the doctors and nurses that have treated me with such care,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter surviving a brutal divorce, losing my mother, finding out my father had died and then this, I have moments of deep sadness. But I am a survivor and I\u2019ll come back strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hayes, who lives in the US, later revealed he faced $100,000 in medical bills.<\/p>\n

The Australian musician<\/a> was previously married to British screenwriter Richard Cullen from 2006 to 2024.<\/p>\n

Hayes rose to fame as part of Australian band Savage Garden, scoring a string of major hits including Truly, Madly, Deeply between 1993 and 2001.<\/p>\n
