{"id":486624,"date":"2026-02-17T22:21:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T22:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/486624\/"},"modified":"2026-02-17T22:21:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T22:21:07","slug":"braves-give-dominic-smith-non-roster-invite-to-major-league-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/486624\/","title":{"rendered":"Braves give Dominic Smith non-roster invite to major league camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORTH PORT, Fla. &#8212; The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/atl\/atlanta-braves\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atlanta Braves<\/a> added veteran first baseman and outfielder <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33218\/dominic-smith\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dominic Smith<\/a> to their major league spring training camp on Tuesday as a non-roster invitee.<\/p>\n<p>Smith, 30, will provide depth behind starting first baseman <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/32767\/matt-olson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Olson<\/a> as well as a possible option in left field or designated hitter.<\/p>\n<p>Smith, who played his first six seasons in the majors with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/nym\/new-york-mets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Mets<\/a>, hit .284 with five homers and 33 RBI in 63 games with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/sf\/san-francisco-giants\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Giants<\/a> last season. He also has played for Washington, Boston and Cincinnati.<\/p>\n<p>Smith is a .250 career hitter in nine seasons.
