Mac Miller)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Next month, the starry-eyed space-funk bass astronaut Thundercat will return with Distracted, his first album in six years. We&#8217;ve already posted the Lil Yachty collab &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/stereogum.com\/2487056\/thundercat-announces-new-album-distracted-hear-i-did-this-to-myself-feat-lil-yachty\/music\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">I Did This To Myself<\/a>,&#8221; and the LP also has appearances from A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, WILLOW, and Channel Tres. Today, we get to hear the album track that features Thundercat&#8217;s late friend Mac Miller.<\/p>\n<p>Mac Miller and Thundercat recorded a great many songs together during the last years of Miller&#8217;s life, and Thundercat was in Miller&#8217;s band during <a href=\"https:\/\/stereogum.com\/2008931\/watch-mac-millers-warm-reflective-tiny-desk-concert-featuring-thundercat\/news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">his great Tiny Desk Concert<\/a> just before Miller&#8217;s 2018 passing. In a press release, Thundercat says, &#8220;I&#8217;m grateful to have spent my time on this planet with Mac. What an artist, what a spirit, what a joy to have experienced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mac Miller and Thundercat got started on the light, playful dating-life lament &#8220;She Knows Too Much&#8221; years ago, and it was unfinished when Miller died. Years later, Thundercat went back and finished the track with big-deal pop producer Greg Kurstin. The L\u00e9a Esmaili-directed cartoon video shows Thundercat and Mac Miller on a journey through a psychedelic red light district. It moves through a ton of different animation styles, and I caught a few homages, like The Big Lebowski and the Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde cover art, in there.
