{"id":48709,"date":"2025-08-06T20:45:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T20:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/48709\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T20:45:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T20:45:10","slug":"t-mobile-tweaks-5g-home-internet-to-add-benefits-and-fine-print-fees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/48709\/","title":{"rendered":"T-Mobile Tweaks 5G Home Internet to Add Benefits (and Fine-Print Fees)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>T-Mobile&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/reviews\/t-mobile-5g-home-internet\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">5G home broadband<\/a> now comes with more help for smart-home devices but adjusts how it advertises pricing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The carrier announced the first change but not the second one in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/news\/network\/expanded-5g-home-small-business-internet-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a press release<\/a>, extending the All-In plan\u2019s 24-hour tech support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/picks\/the-best-smart-home-devices\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">connected gadgets<\/a> like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/picks\/the-best-smart-locks\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">door locks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/picks\/the-best-smart-thermostats\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">thermostats<\/a> to new subscribers who sign up for its cheaper Amplified plan.\u00a0All-In costs $70 after an auto-pay discount ($55 if you have a T-Mobile voice line) while those rates for Amplified are $10 less. <\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/home-internet\/plans\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">these advertised rates<\/a> for both plans as well as the cheaper Rely plan ($50 after auto-pay, $35 with a T-Mobile voice line) no longer fold in taxes and fees as they had since T-Mobile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/t-mobile-launches-5g-home-isp-service\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">launched its 5G home service in 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe updated our broadband plans to no longer include taxes and fees in the pricing to align with what we\u2019ve done across our broader portfolios and make it easier to compare value across providers,\u201d emailed Shante Newman, a T-Mobile spokesperson. \u201cThere\u2019s no change for existing customers who have taxes and fees included on their plans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>T-Mobile ended its previous practice of including taxes and fees on wireless plans in April, when it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/t-mobile-courts-cost-conscious-users-with-new-plans-5-year-price-lock\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">introduced new, more expensive Experience plans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>T-Mobile continues to offer a five-year rate lock on its home broadband plans, but <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250710195410\/https:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/home-internet\/plans\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">an Internet Archive copy of its page listing them<\/a> as seen in July confirms that this price guarantee only covered base rates: \u201cexclusions like taxes &amp; fees apply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/fcc-major-isps-will-need-to-display-broadband-labels-by-april\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">FCC-mandated broadband labels<\/a> for T-Mobile\u2019s home broadband reveal that new subscribers will pay a \u201cRegulatory programs \/ Telco recovery fee\u201d of $1.40 plus government taxes that will vary by location. Texas subscribers will also get dinged for a separate \u201cRecovery Fee\u201d of 0.749% of their rate.<\/p>\n<p>(Telecom lobbyists lobbied the FCC in 2023 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/isps-to-fcc-listing-every-government-fee-on-our-broadband-labels-is-too\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">allow them to gloss over some of these fine-print fees in their labels<\/a>; the commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/fcc-rejects-isp-complaints-about-listing-every-fee-on-broadband-labels\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">turned them down<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>        Recommended by Our Editors<\/p>\n<p>All three of T-Mobile\u2019s home 5G offerings continue to include equipment costs and still don\u2019t require contracts. Rely comes with a slightly slower range of download speeds (87 to 318Mbps, versus All-In\u2019s 133 to 415Mbps); Amplified adds \u201cAdvanced Cyber Security\u201d based on Cujo AI\u2019s platform as well as the 24\/7 connected-device support; All-In throws in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/how-to\/wi-fi-range-extender-vs-mesh-network-whats-the-difference\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">mesh Wi-Fi system<\/a> and the ads-included versions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/reviews\/hulu\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hulu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/reviews\/paramount-plus\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Paramount+<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>T-Mobile also offers small-business versions of these plans under the same names and at the same rates, and new subscribers to the small-biz Amplified and All-In plans also get the Advanced Cyber Security package.<\/p>\n<p>Fixed-wireless broadband has become one of T-Mobile\u2019s bigger successes in recent years, winning over millions of customers from cable internet services and earning high marks in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/jd-power-fixed-wireless-5g-home-internet-tops-fiber-cable-dsl-satisfaction\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">third-party customer-satisfaction surveys<\/a> as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/articles\/readers-choice-2025-isps\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PCMag\u2019s Readers\u2019 Choice awards<\/a>.
