{"id":48751,"date":"2025-08-06T21:11:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T21:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/48751\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T21:11:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T21:11:12","slug":"clara-tauson-highlights-the-two-biggest-weapons-which-victoria-mboko-has-right-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/48751\/","title":{"rendered":"Clara Tauson highlights the two biggest weapons which Victoria Mboko has right now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Victoria Mboko is fast becoming a household name in Canada as she continues to impress on the WTA Tour.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old Canadian travelled to Montreal hoping to make a deep run, but likely didn\u2019t expect things to go quite this well.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning her campaign with wins over Kimberly Birrell, Sofia Kenin, and Marie Bouzkova, Mboko advanced to the last 16, where she met world number two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coco Gauff<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up the biggest win of her professional career, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/the-wta-faces-strong-criticism-after-victoria-mboko-beats-coco-gauff-in-big-upset-in-canada\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mboko defeated Gauff<\/a> in straight sets 7-6, 6-1, to advance to her maiden WTA 1000 quarterfinal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227570972-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Coco Gauff and Victoria Mboko embrace at the net after their fourth-round match at the 2025 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-117356\" \/>Photo by Minas Panagiotakis\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Carrying on in that same vein of form, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/victoria-mboko-says-if-she-could-withdraw-from-the-cincinnati-open-after-reaching-the-semifinals-in-montreal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mboko beat Jessica Bouzas Maneiro<\/a>, booking her place in the semis.<\/p>\n<p>As Mboko prepares to take on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/elena-rybakina\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elena Rybakina<\/a> for a place in the final, her fellow semifinalist has highlighted the Canadian\u2019s two biggest weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Clara Tauson says Victoria Mboko\u2019s serve and backhand are her two biggest weapons<\/p>\n<p>Mboko isn\u2019t the only youngster to have impressed in Montreal, as Denmark\u2019s Clara Tauson has qualified for her second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA<\/a> 1000 semifinal of the season, picking up several big wins along the way.<\/p>\n<p>2025 Canadian Open 2R \u2013 Clara Tauson defeated Lucia Bronzetti, 6-1, 6-22025 Canadian Open 3R \u2013 Clara Tauson defeated Yulia Starodubtseva, 6-3, 6-02025 Canadian Open 4R \u2013 Clara Tauson defeated Iga Swiatek, 7-6, 6-32025 Canadian Open QF \u2013 Clara Tauson defeated Madison Keys, 6-1, 6-4<\/p>\n<p>During her post-match press conference following her quarterfinal win over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/madison-keys\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Madison Keys<\/a>, Tauson was asked whether she had spent much time with Mboko.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot a lot. We practiced one time in D.C. last week. I don\u2019t know when it was, but in D.C,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, sweet girl. Obviously, she\u2019s young, and she\u2019s doing great. She has a lot of firepower as well, and I think she\u2019s feeling great here at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t watched too many of her matches, but I mean, she\u2019s in the semifinals, so she\u2019s playing great.<\/p>\n<p>Tauson proceeded to pick out the two biggest \u2018weapons\u2019 in Mboko\u2019s game, which have fired her to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Open<\/a> semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2227886888-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Victoria Mboko tracks a shot during her quarterfinal win at the 2025 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-118070\" \/>Photo by David Kirouac\/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, I think she\u2019s serving well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think her backhand is obviously a big weapon.
