{"id":487757,"date":"2026-02-18T10:56:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T10:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/487757\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T10:56:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T10:56:13","slug":"actors-wife-reveals-emotional-final-vow-renewal-held-days-before-his-death-after-cancer-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/487757\/","title":{"rendered":": Actor\u2019s wife reveals emotional final vow renewal held days before his death after cancer battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The wife of late actor James Van Der Beek has revealed the couple secretly renewed their wedding vows just days before his death on February 11.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony was described as \u201csimple, beautiful and moving,\u201d the actress told People.<\/p>\n<p>Loved ones surrounded the couple in person, while close friends joined via Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe decided two days beforehand and our friends got us new rings, filled our bedroom with flowers and candles and we renewed our vows from bed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Their close friend, instrumentalist Porangu\u00ed, performed music throughout the ceremony and closed it with a rendition of \u201cSomewhere Over the Rainbow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The couple first wed on August 1, 2010, in Tel Aviv, Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Van Der Beek had been battling stage 3 colorectal cancer for more than two years before his death last Wednesday, aged 49.<\/p>\n<p>His family publicly confirmed his diagnosis at the end of 2024 after the actor revealed he was forced to share the news when a media outlet threatened to publish the story first.<\/p>\n<p>His wife <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skynews.com.au\/lifestyle\/celebrity-life\/he-met-his-final-days-with-courage-dawsons-creek-star-james-van-der-beek-dies-aged-48\/news-story\/c4fa13f64cc4d639237d604d0b3f1db7\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-tgev=\"event119\" data-tgev-container=\"bodylink\" data-tgev-order=\"c4fa13f64cc4d639237d604d0b3f1db7\" data-tgev-label=\"lifestyle\" data-tgev-metric=\"ev\">announced his death<\/a> on Instagram, writing: \u201cHe met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Amid ongoing medical costs, friends created a GoFundMe page to support the family.
