{"id":488417,"date":"2026-02-18T18:28:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/488417\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T18:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:28:14","slug":"danielle-scott-wins-silver-medal-in-womens-aerials-event-at-2026-milano-cortina-winter-olympics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/488417\/","title":{"rendered":"Danielle Scott wins silver medal in women&#8217;s aerials event at 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Danielle Scott has won a superb silver medal in the women&#8217;s aerials event at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It is Australia&#8217;s sixth medal of these Winter Olympic Games and the first in aerials for an Australian since Lydia Lassila&#8217;s bronze and David Morris&#8217;s silver in 2014.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It is also 24 years to the day since chef de mission Alisa Camplin-Warner won her aerials gold in Torino, becoming Australia&#8217;s first woman Winter Olympic champion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Scott performed an immaculate back Full-Full-Full in the final and, although the landing didn&#8217;t quite match that level of excellence, it was still enough to sneak past Chinese pair Shao Qi (101.90) and Kong Fanyu (101.31) into second with a score of 102.17.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Xu Mengtao celebrates holding the Chinese flag above her head\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/5257aef280f34c1e00c58f16823958e4.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">China&#8217;s Xu Mengtao (pictured) took out the gold medal in the women&#8217;s aerials final, with her compatriot Kong Fanyu winning bronze in third place. (Getty Images: Cameron Spencer)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Defending champion Xu Mengtao won gold with a score of 112.90.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Honestly, I just put my heart out there,&#8221; Scott said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I left everything out there. I jumped the way I wanted to and I&#8217;m so grateful for my team around me to get me to that point.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;This just means everything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Weather had compressed the competition into a single day, but the extra stress of morning qualifying and afternoon finals did not seem to bother Australia&#8217;s skiers one bit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Scott scored 99.59 in the first jump of the morning session to qualify straight through to the top 12 final in second place, with Abbey Willcox joining her as ninth-best qualifier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Late entrant Sidney Stephens finished 15th and Airleigh Frigo finished 22nd on their debuts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">After an hour&#8217;s break, Scott showed just how on form she was in the first round of the final, landing a stunning Full-Full-Full, scoring her a whopping 117.19 \u2014 a new personal best score \u2014 to qualify best for the top-six shootout.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/radio\/programs\/abc-sport-daily\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ABC Sport Daily podcast<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">ABC Sport Daily is your daily sports conversation.
