{"id":491132,"date":"2026-02-19T23:11:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T23:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/491132\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T23:11:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T23:11:11","slug":"queensland-reds-to-return-to-italy-after-46-years-for-two-match-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/491132\/","title":{"rendered":"Queensland Reds to return to Italy after 46 years for two-match tour"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Queensland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/reds\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reds<\/a> have announced their latest offseason tour, a two-match visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/italy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Italy<\/a> scheduled for late November.<\/p>\n<p>The club will face an Italy XV side first up, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/benetton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Benetton<\/a> the week after, as part of a joint initiative with the URC club and the Italian Rugby Federation. The first game is expected to be played on the weekend commencing November 20.<\/p>\n<p>Benetton\u2019s home ground, Stadio Monigo, will host both contests in Treviso, with the tour coming 46 years after Queensland\u2019s last visit to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between the two clubs was formalised last July, when Reds trio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/john-bryant\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Bryant<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/louis-werchon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Louis Werchon<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/richie-asiata\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Richie Asiata<\/a> were loaned to Benetton following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/super-rugby\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Super Rugby Pacific<\/a> season. All three players earned playing time for the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s terrific to be able to announce these matches in Treviso,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/sam-cordingley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Cordingley<\/a>, the Queensland Reds General Manager, High Performance, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe strength of rugby is the international flavour and we are really trying to lean into that as the QRU. We sent three excellent players over to Italy where they represented Benetton Rugby and the Reds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA strong point of the partnership is affording players and staff the chance to experience something different, where they\u2019ll learn, not just in rugby but with a life perspective.
