{"id":492522,"date":"2026-02-20T14:03:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T14:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/492522\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T14:03:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T14:03:11","slug":"new-tsa-report-on-australias-tyre-supply-chain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/492522\/","title":{"rendered":"New TSA Report on Australia\u2019s Tyre Supply Chain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) published a new report on the systemic barriers that are preventing Australia from achieving higher levels of tyre circularity<\/p>\n<p>About the Report<\/p>\n<p>The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tyreandrubberrecycling.com\/articles\/news\/tyre-and-rubber-podcast-71-with-tsas-lina-goodman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TSA<\/a> report, called Tyre Supply Chain Analysis: Opportunities to grow Australia\u2019s circular economy for tyres,\u00a0is prepared\u00a0by Randell Environmental Consulting and provides a detailed assessment to date of the pressures, gaps and inefficiencies across the Australian tyre supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>The report identifies 33 issues that are limiting progress, with six of them rated as \u201cvery high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Free\u2011riding importers who do not contribute to the Scheme levy.<br \/>\nRogue collectors undercutting accredited operators and driving illegal dumping.<br \/>\nOngoing permitted onsite burial of mining tyres.<br \/>\nOn\u2011farm dumping and burning due to high collection costs.<br \/>\nLow domestic recycling rates, with only 17% of tyres recycled.<br \/>\nUnderdeveloped end markets limiting higher\u2011value recovery.<\/p>\n<p>The report confirms that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tyreandrubberrecycling.com\/articles\/business-news\/rio-tinto-and-tyre-stewardship-australia-partnering-to-give-eol-tyres-a-second-chance\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia\u2019s tyre circular economy<\/a> is not able to scale under the current model, with mandatory participation identified as the most effective mechanism to address market failures and improve national outcomes. It also states that a mandatory participation scheme (national or jurisdictional) is by far the most frequently recommended implementation approach and is recommended for five Very High and High CE constraints.
