Australian sprinting sensation Gout Gout has come perilously close to breaking the 10-second barrier, with another eye-catching run in Brisbane.<\/p>\n

The Queenslander ran a 10.00 (+0.9m\/s) on Saturday at the Dane Bird-Smith Shield Meet at the Queensland State Athletic Centre.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gout’s time set a new Australian under-20s record for the men’s 100m, beating Jake Doran’s 10.15, which has stood since 2018.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old unofficially broke the 10-second barrier twice in one day last April<\/a>, but neither time was listed as a personal best due to wind assistance.<\/p>\n

Gout has opted not to compete in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, instead choosing to prioritise the World Athletics Under 20 Championships.<\/p>\n

His run in Brisbane on Saturday was his first qualifying performance for this year’s championships.<\/p>\n

The 10-second barrier has only been broken by two Australians.<\/p>\n

Patrick Johnson ran a 9.93 in 2003, which remains an Australian record.\u00a0<\/p>\n
