There is one last event at the Milano Cortina Games and, as is tradition, it’s the men’s ice hockey gold medal match.<\/p>\n

And it’s the blockbuster clash between the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n

Expect some fireworks.<\/p>\n

Women’s freeski halfpipe gold medallist Eileen Gu was a little late to her post-final press conference, and at the end of her remarks she’s revealed why.<\/p>\n

“I just found out that my grandma passed away,” Gu says through tears.<\/p>\n

“She was a really big part of my life growing up and someone I looked up to immensely.<\/p>\n

“Some people cruise through life, but she was a steamship.”<\/p>\n

The Chinese superstar says she knew she was sick and “this was a possibility, saying she went to see her before the Games and didn’t promise to win, but promised to be brave.<\/p>\n

“I’m really happy I was able to uphold that and hopefully do her proud. I really apologise for being late.”<\/p>\n

It ultimately comes down to the final stone of the women’s gold medal match and Sweden beats Switzerland 6-5 as Anna Hasselborg takes out the last Swiss rock and secures the final point.<\/p>\n

Switzerland was down 5-3 in the ninth end of the women’s gold-medal match against Sweden but Alina Paetz pulls out a two-pointer and we’re off to the 10th (and final?) end all square.<\/p>\n

Zoe Atkin down in bronze and now Britain cannot medal in the 4-man bobsleigh means Australia just sealed the Ashes at these Winter Olympics, by a single silver. 3 Gold, 6 medals – AND covered Britain, again. Superb. Nervy final day waiting for that!<\/p>\n

With only Sweden and Switzerland in the women’s curling, and USA and Canada in the men’s ice hockey still hunting medals, we now know where Australia will finish in the medal tally.<\/p>\n

Australia is 14th with three golds, two silvers and a bronze.<\/p>\n

Great Britain is 15th with a 3-1-1 split.<\/p>\n

Remarkably, it’s not Australia’s highest finish on the tally, having finished 13th in Vancouver 2010 despite only winning two golds and a silver.<\/p>\n

Switzerland breaks up the German sweep in the bobsleigh\"Jon\"\"(Getty)<\/p>\n

Switzerland has spoiled the party for Germany in the four-man, jumping into the medals with its fourth and final run.<\/p>\n

Michael Vogt’s last time down in the Cortina Sliding Centre was rapid and the first of the three German teams, piloted by Adam Ammour, could not match it.<\/p>\n

They led for much of the run, but slipped just 0.04 of a second behind the Swiss.<\/p>\n

Ammour is devastated as the men in red celebrate a bronze medal as the second and third German teams leapfrog them.<\/p>\n

Australian Rosie Fordham has just crossed the line with an agonised expression on her face after the slow-motion torture chamber that is the 50km cross-country skiing.<\/p>\n

Fordham finishes in 30th spot, 22 minutes and 2.4 seconds after Swedish gold medallist Ebba Andersson, who wins her first Olympic gold medal after bronze and silver in 2022 and three silvers at these Games.<\/p>\n

Norway’s Heidi Weng (+2:15.3) takes silver and Swiss Nadja Kaelin (+6:41.5) is third.<\/p>\n

An unforgettable moment for Indra Brown\"Jon\"\"(Getty)<\/p>\n

Australian Indra Brown is thrilled with her performance in the freeski halfpipe final, finishing just 5.5 points out of the medals as a 16-year-old.<\/p>\n

And, personally, she landed her first 1080 in competition \u2014 one of just two competitors to land the triple spin in the final.<\/p>\n

“Just really proud of how I was able to improve each run and put it down there when it counted. Really proud of myself,” Brown tells Channel Nine.<\/p>\n

“I’m really stoked to be able to put it [the 1080] down, that was the best run I’ve ever landed in competition. I’m just really proud and stoked.”<\/p>\n

After that final run, which pushed her from 10th to fifth, gold medallist and skiing legend Eileen Gu rushed to embrace Brown and made the genuflecting “Hail Queen Indra” gesture as she walked off.<\/p>\n

“It was a really special moment to have someone I idolise give me a hug after I land my third run at the Olympics.”<\/p>\n

Gu (94.75) leads a Chinese 1-2 with Li Fanghui (93), who looked like she might be leapfrogged after Zoe Atkin’s big final run, but judges only awarded her a 92.50 and she takes bronze.<\/p>\n

Former aerials gold medallist Lydia Lassila is at Livigno and makes a point that the difference at the moment really is the height of the jumps.<\/p>\n

She says “it’s very tight at the top” and the likes of Eileen Gu, Li Fanghui and Zoe Atkin are “going a lot bigger” than 16-year-old Australian Indra Brown.<\/p>\n

“Indra, you’ve got be proud of her. She’s put down two very clean runs, she just does need that amplitude,” Lassila says.<\/p>\n
