ANMF South Australian chief executive Elizabeth Dabars said the 6 per cent pay increase came about because nurses and midwives “stood together and were prepared to act”.<\/p>\n

She said the union still had authorisation to conduct industrial action if needed.<\/p>\n
“We will continue negotiations for our full wage claim and improved conditions,” Ms Dabars said.<\/p>\n
“This is a strong step forward in our campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“The campaign continues and we remain prepared to act if required.”<\/p>\n
Negotiations to continue<\/p>\n
Mr Maher said negotiations with the union would continue, even if a decision on an enterprise bargaining agreement could not be made in the caretaker period.<\/p>\n
“We are pleased that the nurses union have come back to the table and have made that second movement \u2026 and there will be further discussions no doubt that occur during caretaker,” he said.<\/p>\n
The state government’s most recent offer to nurses was an 11.14 per cent pay rise over three years, compounded, along with other incentives.<\/p>\n
It had said the strike would have resulted in the cancellation of up to 1,000 outpatient appointments and up to 32 operations.<\/p>\n
