It\u2019s not just enough to have a great car, but there\u2019s a real art in how you option it, or what badge\/performance level\/trim\/etc one chooses. In my opinion, the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring is the epitome of this. It\u2019s the ultimate connoisseur\u2019s car: the GT3 is the purest, wildest version of one of the best driver\u2019s cars on the market, but in Touring guise \u2013 which skips big rear wings and track performance for a more subtle look and (slightly more) day-to-day drivability \u2013 and you\u2019ve got the makings of automotive perfection.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been reading T+T for a while now, you\u2019ll no doubt be familiar with <a href=\"https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/porsche-design-custom-built-chronograph-hands-on\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Porsche Design\u2019s stable of watches and how you can personalise them to almost the same extent as a Porsche<\/a>, to create your own perfect spec. You might also know that there are a few Porsche Design watch models that you can only buy <a href=\"https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/porsche-design-chronograph-718-spyder-rs-what-we-wore\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">if you own a specific Porsche vehicle<\/a>, which typically feature fewer options for personalisation. Enter the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 &amp; 911 GT3 Touring, which is both vehicle-exclusive and also highly customisable, and might just represent the best incarnation of the Porsche Design Chronograph to date.<\/p>\n<p>First, the car<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265264 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 Touring pit lane\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-pit-lane.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-pit-lane.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-pit-lane.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-pit-lane-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>One of the coolest things about reviewing a Porsche Design watch is that Porsche (in Australia at least) makes an effort to customise a watch to match one of the cars in their press fleet, so you can get the full car-and-watch experience as a reviewer. With that in mind, the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring that\u2019s the focus of this review is customised to match a specific 992.2 generation Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, which I also got to review both on track at Sydney Motorsport Park as well as around town for a week \u2013 a rare experience I\u2019ve only had a few times in my career as an automotive journalist (man has range).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265262 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 Touring on track\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-on-track.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-on-track.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-on-track.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-Touring-on-track-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>As for that car, it was something special. Coloured in \u2018Slate Grey Neo\u2019 with a tan two-tone interior, it cut a surprisingly subtle figure\u2026 Belied only by the snarling air intakes on its nose and frankly rude exhaust note. A 4.0L naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine good for 375kW mated to a six-speed manual transmission will do 0-100km\/h in 3.8 seconds, but those numbers alone belie its true excellence. The 992.2 GT3 Touring might be positioned as the more benign road-going version of Porsche\u2019s top-flight sports car, but really, all it lacks is the rear wing of the \u2018standard\u2019 GT3: this is a raw and capable performance vehicle that just happens to be wrapped in some nice leather.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265263 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 lineup\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-lineup.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-lineup.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-lineup.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-911-GT3-lineup-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drive.com.au\/reviews\/2026-porsche-911-992-2-gt3-touring-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Drive\u2019s Tom Fraser put it best in his review<\/a> when he said that \u201cit\u2019s a car that wills you to drive it like you stole it\u2026 [which] flies in the face of the GT3 Touring\u2019s subdued styling\u2026 [it\u2019s] for those who fly under the radar, but still want just as unhinged an experience on the road as you\u2019d get while driving a Carrera Cup car on a racetrack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265266 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring behind the wheel\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-behind-the-wheel.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-behind-the-wheel.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-behind-the-wheel.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-behind-the-wheel-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>To keep things horologically relevant, the car I reviewed had a Porsche Design dash clock, which the dial of the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring replicates. The strap of the watch is in the same supple tan leather as the car\u2019s seats, and the automatic rotor is patterned after the car\u2019s grey rims.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the watch<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265272 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring bonnet\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-bonnet.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-bonnet.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-bonnet.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-bonnet-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Just as the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring is a wolf in sheep\u2019s clothing of a car, its associated watch similarly requires a second look. Unlike the majority of Porsche Design chronographs, it\u2019s actually a flyback chronograph, a feature that\u2019s not immediately apparent unless you get in close and take a look at the itty-bitty \u2018Flyback\u2019 text in its chrono hours subdial. Another small detail that\u2019s easily missed is the running seconds indicator at 9 o\u2019clock: in the centre of the display, you\u2019ll find the text \u2018Born in Flacht\u2019, referring to Porsche Motorsport\u2019s facility, where the 911 GT3 is developed.<\/p>\n<p>The running seconds is actually the most whimsical part of the watch: rather than utilising a hand, it instead features a rotating disc with a chequered flag motif on one half and a 911 GT3 badge on the other. It\u2019s not particularly useful for tracking seconds, but it is useful for discerning if the watch is still running.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265265 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring caseback\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-caseback.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-caseback.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-caseback.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-caseback-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s the flyback that\u2019s the most exciting thing here. And again, there\u2019s parallels to draw: if the 911 GT3 is the 911 with extra sauce, then this is the Porsche Design Chronograph with extra sauce\u2026 Also, just as there\u2019s something indescribably special about rowing through the gears of a manual sports car, there are few things that beat the tactile pleasure of activating a flyback <a href=\"https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/best-chronograph-watches\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chronograph<\/a> when it comes to timepieces.<\/p>\n<p>Closing thoughts<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265270 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring on wrist track\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-on-wrist-track.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-on-wrist-track.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-on-wrist-track.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-on-wrist-track-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>As I\u2019ve discussed in my previous reviews of Porsche Design watches, they can be cynically viewed as yet another expensive add-on to the cost of an already expensive vehicle, or they can represent the ultimate value add. The novelty of a watch that literally perfectly matches your car is, on face value, pretty sweet. It\u2019s also worth considering that upper-echelon, halo supercars like the Porsche 911 GT3 <a href=\"https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/what-can-the-watch-world-learn-from-the-enthusiast-car-market-opinion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">are highly collectible vehicles in their own right<\/a>, and for that future collector, one of these watches would be unbelievably desirable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-265271 aligncenter ewww_webp_lazy_load\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring tyre\" width=\"1750\" height=\"1167\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-tyre.jpg\" data-lazy-src-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-tyre.jpg.webp\" data-lazy-srcset-webp=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-tyre.jpg.webp 1750w, https:\/\/timeandtidewatches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Porsche-Design-Chronograph-911-GT3-Touring-tyre-1000x667.jpg.webp 1000w\"\/><\/p>\n<p>But I\u2019m not here to speculate about future value or justify Porsche\u2019s punchy pricing. Evaluating this watch on its merits, the Porsche Design Chronograph 911 GT3 Touring is a competent and appealing prospect. This isn\u2019t some co-branded fashion watch: this is a Swiss-made, in-house, flyback chronograph using premium materials (real luxury car leather!) that\u2019s also an heir to a historically significant design lineage\u2026 Top Gun, anyone? It\u2019s the best version of the Porsche Design Custom-Built Chronograph to date, partly because of its flyback function but also because of its association with the cream of the 911 crop.<\/p>\n<p>It would be easy for me to wax lyrical here. The 911 GT3 Touring is a dream car. Probably my dream car.
