The latest models can now complete complex, hours-long tasks with little human supervision. This month one of OpenAI\u2019s models helped derive a new result in theoretical physics. No wonder an essay declaring that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2026\/02\/11\/something-big-is-happening-ai-february-2020-moment-matt-shumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Something Big is Happening<\/a>\u201d and, in recent days, a blog post of a similar tenor from Citrini Research, a firm of analysts, have gone viral.<\/p>\n<p>Is something big happening to the economy, too? Scott Bessent, America\u2019s treasury secretary, predicted last year that AI would soon start \u201cbiting\u201d \u2013 meaning that it would lead to noticeable improvements in productivity.
