Influential MLB agent Scott Boras said he is in favor of a \u201creward system\u201d in the league instead of a salary cap whereby teams are eligible for revenue sharing \u201cif you do well.\u201d Boras, talking to the N.Y. Post\u2019s Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, said, \u201cYou win your division and you are one of the bottom 15 (revenue generating) teams, you\u2019re going to get a maximized reward. I\u2019m also for the idea that your rewards are less if you showed a propensity for not being in the playoffs for a decade. You do not get as much because you\u2019re not performing at the level.\u201d Boras also suggested teams with new ownership groups get the \u201cbenefit of much larger revenue sharing because they are now new to the system and they have a right to perform under that new system.\u201d The amount of revenue sharing they would receive would then \u201cdecline as their lack of performance in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n
REVENUE-SHARING RELEGATION? Boras also suggested MLB\u2019s ownership structure \u201cshould be like soccer.\u201d He brought up relegation that is used in many global soccer leagues, and while he did not say MLB teams should face the prospect of losing their spot in the league, he did say revenue sharing \u201cshould go in and out based upon the performance of their teams.\u201d Having that revenue stream fluctuate based on performance \u201cgives them incentives to go out and acquire the best talent\u201d via free agency (\u201cThe Show with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman,\u201d N.Y.
