Roman Anthony<\/a> made a splash in the Red Sox\u2019 outfield as a rookie last season, and now an MLB insider is ranking him as one of the top players at his position. <\/p>\n

According to Buster Olney\u2019s latest position rankings<\/a>, Anthony is No. 7 in MLB among corner outfielders.<\/p>\n

New York\u2019s Aaron Judge, ranked No. 1 overall, was the only corner outfielder in the American League listed higher than Anthony. <\/p>\n

\u201cBoston manager Alex Cora has already announced that he intends to keep Anthony in the leadoff spot, a nod to his ability to get on base,\u201d Olney wrote. \u201cHe had a .396 OBP in his rookie season \u2014 and to give him as many plate appearances as possible. <\/p>\n

\u201cSome evaluators believe that the Red Sox would be best served to keep Anthony in center field, but Cora is blessed with an abundance of outfield riches, with\u00a0Ceddanne Rafaela<\/a>\u00a0patrolling center field, Gold Glover\u00a0Wilyer Abreu<\/a>\u00a0in right and\u00a0Jarren Duran<\/a>\u00a0in left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Olney began the list with a series of quotes about Anthony. There were texts from Chipper Jones raving about Anthony\u2019s potential.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a ton of talent there,\u201d Jones wrote. \u201cI see a .300 hitter with home run talent. With more consistent contact, you have a perennial All-Star.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was former MLB GM JP Ricciardi saying that Anthony is \u201cgoing to go down as one of the greatest Red Sox ever\u201d as long as he stays healthy. A pair of talent evaluators each mentioned Anthony\u2019s instincts at the plate. <\/p>\n

Anthony played 71 games last season before an oblique strain cut his rookie season short. He slashed .292\/.386\/.463 and clubbed eight home runs while driving in 32 runs.<\/p>\n

With one season of his Red Sox career under his belt, Anthony has entered the conversation among the best corner outfielders in the league, and it\u2019s not yet entirely clear whether that\u2019s even the best spot for him. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnthony started 32 games in right field last year, 17 in left and another 17 games at DH. But his best position, some evaluators say, is in center,\u201d Olney wrote. \u201c\u2018He really does have incredible instincts out there,\u2019 said one, before mentioning that Anthony would benefit from playing as much as possible and collecting experience in Fenway\u2019s quirky center field.\u201d<\/p>\n
