{"id":504760,"date":"2026-02-26T06:43:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T06:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/504760\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T06:43:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T06:43:08","slug":"sabres-2-1-devils-feb-25-2026-game-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/504760\/","title":{"rendered":"Sabres 2-1 Devils (Feb 25, 2026) Game Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEWARK, N.J. &#8212; \u2014 U.S. Olympian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/player\/_\/id\/4024988\/tage-thompson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tage Thompson<\/a> scored his 31st goal of the season and added an assist to help the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/team\/_\/name\/buf\/buffalo-sabres\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Buffalo Sabres<\/a> beat the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/team\/_\/name\/nj\/new-jersey-devils\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Jersey Devils<\/a> 2-1 on Wednesday night in the NHL&#8217;s return to action.<\/p>\n<p>              Thompson had three goals and an assist in six games in Milan for the champion United States.<\/p>\n<p>              <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/player\/_\/id\/4565238\/peyton-krebs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peyton Krebs<\/a> also had a goal and an assist, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/player\/_\/id\/4233889\/ukko-pekka-luukkonen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen<\/a> made 27 saves. The Sabres have won seven of 10 to improve to 33-19-6.<\/p>\n<p>              Buffalo is looking to make the playoffs for the first time in 14 seasons. The Sabres entered Wednesday night in the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n<p>              Thompson scored in the second period, and Krebs made it 2-0 midway through the third. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/player\/_\/id\/3899978\/timo-meier\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Timo Meier<\/a> scored for New Jersey with 2:30 to play.<\/p>\n<p>              U.S. Olympic hero <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/player\/_\/id\/4565222\/jack-hughes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Hughes<\/a> was honored by the Devils before the game, and assisted on Meier&#8217;s goal. The Devils showed video of Hughes\u2019 overtime goal in the United States\u2019 2-1 victory over Canada on Sunday in the gold-medal game.<\/p>\n<p>              <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nhl\/player\/_\/id\/5111\/jake-allen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jake Allen<\/a> had 28 saves for New Jersey.
