YouTube<\/a> channel, former UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier endorsed Chimaev moving to 205 pounds after watching him work with a pair of divisional legends.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\u201cSo I thought that if Khamzat was to fight at 205, he\u2019d be running against guys who would be just too big for him. At some point, that has to become an issue. Then I saw a video of him sparring with Khalil Rountree,\u201d Cormier said of Chimaev.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis back looked massive, looks like a 205-pound fighter already! And then I watched a video of him sparring with Luke Rockhold, who is all of 6\u20194\u201d, 220 pounds right now\u2026Khamzat Chimaev looked just as big, if not bigger. You watch him and Khalil Rountree striking, and it looks to me like Khamzat is winning the striking. He\u2019s kicking with the same power as Luke.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got to be honest, I don\u2019t know that this kid couldn\u2019t fight at 205 pounds.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cormier then took things a step further in matching Chimaev up with the UFC\u2019s current light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you look at Alex Pereira, he\u2019s huge, massive, but he still doesn\u2019t wrestle. He\u2019s shown takedown defense, and if he hits you he can put you out completely, you\u2019re done,\u201d Cormier said of a potential Chimaev vs. Pereira fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we\u2019ve seen what Khamzat has done to guys without wrestling backgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n
