{"id":505346,"date":"2026-02-26T12:50:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T12:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/505346\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T12:50:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T12:50:07","slug":"chris-wilder-coventry-and-frank-lampard-will-play-in-the-premier-league","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/505346\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Wilder: Coventry and Frank Lampard will play in the Premier League"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/football\/team\/_\/id\/398\/sheffield-united\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sheffield United<\/a> boss Chris Wilder has backed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/football\/team\/_\/id\/388\/coventry-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Coventry<\/a> to secure promotion to the <a data-league-guid=\"6949f3af-300c-35f1-beab-b95669eedd38\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/football\/league\/_\/name\/ENG.1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Premier League<\/a> after his  side lost to Frank Lampard&#8217;s charges on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>The Sky Blues rode their luck at Bramall Lane and the Blades took a deserved lead early in the second half, having dominated the first 45 minutes, through <a data-player-guid=\"cd91875f-60e2-0a93-6be0-271ed1d6c71f\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/263132\/harrison-burrows\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harrison Burrows<\/a>&#8216; deflected shot.<\/p>\n<p>But Lampard&#8217;s side responded four minutes after going behind, with <a data-player-guid=\"f851ec22-2860-0780-0e29-302ff99b9770\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/220474\/haji-wright\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Haji Wright<\/a> firing his 14th league goal of the season before Jack Rudoni headed them in front five minutes later.<\/p>\n<p>The Blades remain nine points adrift of the playoff places and boss Chris Wilder said he was delighted with &#8220;90%&#8221; of his side&#8217;s display and that five minutes of &#8220;naivety&#8221; cost them two goals.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;When you play as well as we have played tonight, you have got to win the game and we haven&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And I suppose, from Frank and Coventry&#8217;s point of view &#8212; they said, &#8216;we&#8217;ve not been great, but we&#8217;ve ended up winning the game.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wish them all well and all the best. I think they&#8217;ll obviously go on now to play in the Premier League next year and nights like tonight cement that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lampard says there will be no let-up from his side after they won to move five points clear at the top of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/football\/league\/_\/name\/eng.2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Coventry, who held a 10-point lead at the top in November, were knocked off top spot by Middlesbrough earlier this month, but have regained momentum with three straight wins in their bid for a top-flight return for the first time in 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>Lampard said: &#8220;We&#8217;re happy because there&#8217;s lots of ways to win a game. We&#8217;ve won some games in a beautiful fashion this season and when you win games like tonight, they feel just as good.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But we all go back tonight and we will sleep well, then we get up and go again tomorrow, because this league is such a challenge.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Frank Lampard celebrates after Coventry&#8217;s win over Sheffield United.\u00a0James Gill &#8211; Danehouse\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The minute you think you might have cracked it, you haven&#8217;t.
