The AFL has announced three changes to the All Australian panel on the eve of the 2026 season, adding two premiership captains and a popular veteran to the mix.

Geelong great Joel Selwood has accepted the call-up three and a half years after he retired on top as the Cats’ 2022 premiership captain.

He joins alongside Hawthorn legend Luke Hodge, who hung up the boots in 2019 after two years in Brisbane, and Fremantle champion David Mundy, who also called time on his career in 2022.

The trio replace newly appointed Geelong assistant coach Nathan Buckley, Sydney Swans CEO Matthew Pavlich and ex-AFL footy operations boss Josh Mahoney.

Buckley and Pavlich previously sat on the panel alongside prominent media roles — something Hodge, Selwood and Mundy will each do in 2026.

Selwood and Hodge are two of Channel 7’s leading experts while Mundy has also taken up commentary gigs.

“Luke, David and Joel are three of the most respected figures in the modern game,” Dillon said in a statement.

“They all enjoyed decorated playing careers, and we are delighted to have people of their experience, leadership and credibility on the panel — all essential traits in helping select the best players and team for the 2026 season.

“On behalf of the AFL, I would like to thank Nathan, Matthew and Josh for their dedication and service as All Australian selectors.”

Mahoney’s exit leaves football bosses Greg Swann and Laura Kane as the only remaining AFL voices on the panel, which is chaired by league chief executive Andrew Dillon.

Hodge and Selwood join fellow Channel 7 commentators Kane Cornes, Jude Bolton and Abbey Holmes on the panel.

Eddie Betts and Glen Jakovich round out the group.

The All Australian team will undergo a change this year with 23 players, up from 22, to be selected from the initial squad.

A fifth man on the bench will be added to align with the AFL’s decision to scrap the sub and extend the interchange bench to five.
