Renewable energy prices are largely determined outside the market through fixed, bilateral contracts \u2014 meaning bills are only marginally exposed to the ETS price.<\/p>\n<p>Renewable energy producers, on the other hand, base their long-term investment strategies on those higher, ETS-linked prices, and the new law could derail those plans, while favoring gas, the person added. The CEO of energy company Edison, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.corriere.it\/economia\/finanza\/26_febbraio_20\/decreto-bollette-monti-edison-pagano-solo-le-aziende-elettriche-cosi-si-rallenta-la-transizione-eebddcac-610d-40da-92b7-7d44c4a00xlk.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said last week that<\/a> the government&#8217;s plans could slow down the green transition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Growing pressure on ETS<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission did not respond to requests for comment and has not yet formally reacted to the Italian decree, which is yet to pass into law.
