{"id":506834,"date":"2026-02-27T04:49:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T04:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/506834\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T04:49:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T04:49:13","slug":"milwaukee-native-and-longtime-mlb-umpire-bruce-froemming-dies-at-86","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/506834\/","title":{"rendered":"Milwaukee native and longtime MLB umpire Bruce Froemming dies at 86"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(WLUK) &#8212; A Milwaukee native who umpired the third-most games in Major League Baseball history has died.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Froemming died Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/news\/umpire-bruce-froemming-dies-at-age-86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to the MLB.<\/a> He was 86 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Froemming served as an MLB ump for 37 consecutive seasons, from 1971 to 2007. He called 5,163 games, including a record 11 no-hitters; worked five World Series (1976, 1984, 1988, 1990, 1995); and umpired a record 10 National League Championship Series.<\/p>\n<p>The MLB wrote in an article announcing Froemming&#8217;s death:<\/p>\n<p>Froemming was the home-plate umpire for Nolan Ryan\u2019s record fifth no-no in 1981 and at first base for Dennis Martinez\u2019s perfect game in 1991. He was also behind the plate in 1972 when Milt Pappas retired the first 26 hitters before issuing a walk, with Froemming making a couple of calls that received scrutiny with Pappas\u2019 potential perfect game turning into a no-hitter.Comment with Bubbles<\/p>\n<p>BE THE FIRST TO COMMENT<\/p>\n<p>Froemming umpired his final game in 2007 at Miller Park (now American Family Field) in his hometown of Milwaukee.
