An NBA spokesperson said that \u201cno decision\u201d on a broadcast partner or partners has been made yet. The NBA \u201chopes\u201d that anchoring permanent teams in Europe\u2019s biggest media markets \u201cwill make the league interesting to big partners.\u201d Currently, some of Europe\u2019s best basketball teams \u201caren\u2019t connected to its largest media markets, dampening ubiquitous continental interest in the sport and lowering its television value.\u201d League execs envision NBA teams \u201cplaying preseason games against NBA Europe clubs.\u201d The NBA is betting that by opening up NBA Europe, it \u201ccan incentivize the entire European infrastructure\u201d by \u201cimproving player development, marketing, and fan interest throughout Europe.\u201d It is also \u201cbanking on fans becoming more interested in their local EuroLeague teams,\u201d knowing there is a \u201cchance for them to earn a spot in NBA Europe.\u201d League execs have spent the past month \u201cmeeting with dozens of potential investors in franchises in Europe, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/26\/report-nba-to-open-data-room-for-potential-europe-league-backers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/26\/report-nba-to-open-data-room-for-potential-europe-league-backers\/\">wealthy individuals and private equity funds<\/a>.\u201d Non-binding bids for those teams \u201care <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/22\/nba-hopes-to-make-nba-europe-official-in-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/12\/22\/nba-hopes-to-make-nba-europe-official-in-march\/\">due in late March<\/a>.\u201d The NBA \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/07\/31\/nba-europe-franchise-fees-likely-to-exceed-500m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/07\/31\/nba-europe-franchise-fees-likely-to-exceed-500m\/\">wants franchise fees<\/a> of about\u201d $1B, though \u201csome investor groups have balked at that number and have pushed for fees closer to\u201d $500M.
