NHL player Dylan Strome found himself in the center of controversy<\/a> he didn\u2019t ask for. Strome, who plays center for the Washington Capitals, got caught up in the recent male hockey Olympics storm. For those that don\u2019t know, the U.S. Men\u2019s Hockey team came under fire after a congratulatory call from President Trump. Following their gold medal winning<\/a> game, the president made disparaging remarks about the women\u2019s team, who also won. And it seemed like the NHL was trying to cover their butts.<\/p>\n

The timing wasn\u2019t great.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the NHL posted a photo<\/a> of 28-year-old Strome with his toddler daughter at Disneyland on their X account, Newsweek reported. \u201cDylan Strome is the ultimate girl dad,\u201d they captioned the post.<\/p>\n

Many assumed the post came as a way to smooth over the PR crisis, and didn\u2019t hesitate to call it out. While the post has been deleted, screenshots are forever.<\/p>\n

\u201cWeird that you chose today to post this. Did something happen?\u201d one person wrote. \u201cNot using the daughter as a human shield, my God,\u201d someone else wrote.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Dylan Strome didn\u2019t deserve the backlash.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth pointing out that not only is he Canadian, but he didn\u2019t even play in the Olympics this year. But I can understand why people were upset.<\/p>\n

Strome\u2019s wife, Tayler Strome, called out the negativity<\/a> in her Instagram Story the same day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were placed into a narrative that we have absolutely nothing to do with and we certainly did not choose to have our family used in it,\u201d she wrote, as reported by US Weekly. \u201cYou can debate adults all you want, but dragging my husband and especially my toddler into something that has nothing to do with us is beyond unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t leave it at that either.<\/p>\n

Tayler continued, directly addressing those whose comments targeted their two-year-old daughter Emerson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe comments and messages about my TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER are some of the most vile and disgusting things I have ever read in my life,\u201d she said. \u201cThis isn\u2019t about politics. She is a child. Full stop. Do better.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, she did have kind words for some people. \u201cAnd to everyone who has reached out or addressed this situation with more than a single brain cell, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

The U.S. women\u2019s hockey team didn\u2019t accept the invitation anyway.<\/p>\n

According to Newsweek, the women\u2019s team declined the president\u2019s invitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal\u2013winning U.S. Women\u2019s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement,\u201d they said in a statement on February 23. \u201cDue to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate. They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.\u201d<\/p>\n
