The British rock band Radiohead is demanding that the Trump administration take down a promotional video for Immigration and Customs Enforcement that uses one of their songs.<\/p>\n
The ICE video<\/a>, which was posted on social media last week, features a version of the song \u201cLet Down\u201d from the band\u2019s critically acclaimed 1997 album \u201cOK Computer\u201d alongside faces of people the administration describes as victims of \u201ccriminal illegal alien violence.\u201d<\/p>\n It is part of the \u201cThis is our why\u201d campaign by the Department of Homeland Security and ICE to defend President Donald Trump\u2019s immigration crackdown amid public backlash<\/a>.<\/p>\n Social media accounts for Trump, the White House and DHS, which collectively have tens of millions of followers, also shared the video. It has since circulated and gained attention on other social media platforms.<\/p>\n \u201cWe demand that the amateurs in control of the ICE social media account take it down. It ain\u2019t funny, this song means a lot to us and other people, and you don\u2019t get to appropriate it without a fight,\u201d Radiohead said in a statement sent to NBC News.<\/p>\n \u201cAlso, go f— yourselves,\u201d the band added.<\/p>\n DHS and ICE didn\u2019t immediately return requests for comment when asked if they would honor Radiohead\u2019s request and remove the video in question.<\/p>\n Radiohead\u2019s PR agency said the song was used in an ICE \u201cpropaganda\u201d video without the band\u2019s permission.<\/p>\n Apart from his music, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, 57, is known for his anti-capitalist politics and outspoken activism on causes like environmentalism.<\/p>\n It isn\u2019t the first time the Trump administration has found itself at odds with artists and entertainers after using their material to justify the president\u2019s controversial immigration enforcement tactics. A few months ago, pop star Sabrina Carpenter demanded<\/a> that the administration stop using her song \u201cJuno\u201d in an ICE video. Before that, podcaster Theo Von called out DHS<\/a> for using a clip of him in a pro-deportation video.<\/p>\n Artists like The Rolling Stones<\/a> have also demanded that Trump stop playing their music at his political rallies.<\/p>\n
