{"id":509059,"date":"2026-02-28T05:27:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T05:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/509059\/"},"modified":"2026-02-28T05:27:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T05:27:14","slug":"rare-numerical-oddity-in-saturday-sydney-podium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/509059\/","title":{"rendered":"Rare numerical oddity in Saturday Sydney podium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WE copped a few messages in the wake of last Saturday\u2019s race at the Dunlop Sydney 500 highlighting a numerical oddity among the podium finishers.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, that three consecutive numbers featured in the top three spots: 17, 18 and 19.<\/p>\n<p>Now they didn\u2019t finish in numerical sequence \u2013 although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1301-Brodie-Kostecki\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brodie Kostecki<\/a> did try very hard to put his #17 ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1264-Anton-De Pasquale\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anton De Pasquale<\/a>\u2019s #18.<\/p>\n<p>But it prompted the question about whether that has happened previously in ATCC\/Supercars history.<\/p>\n<p>A search through our AN1 Data statistical database revealed that this was the fifth instance of it happening, and the first time in 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>That was at Phillip Island in 2001, when eventual champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-90-Mark-Skaife\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Skaife<\/a> (#1) headed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-6-Craig-Lowndes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Craig Lowndes<\/a> (#00) and Jason Bright (#2). Please don\u2019t @ us about #00 being listed between #10 and #11 in programs of the era, either\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Prior to that was at Oran Park in 1979, a rare round in featuring separate races for outright and under three-litre cars.<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, eventual champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-402-Bob-Morris\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Morris<\/a> (#7) beat home Allan Grice (#6) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-176-Peter-Brock\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Brock<\/a> (#05).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2?utm_source=SRBuyButton&amp;utm_medium=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/v8-sleuth-magazine-issue-2_1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other two instances happened in 1977, a year that featured domination from the Moffat Ford Dealers Falcons, as well as John Harvey\u2019s lead Holden Dealer Team entry carrying #3.<\/p>\n<p>And on both occasions, the numbers came home in sequence.<\/p>\n<p>The first was at the Sandown sprint round and the second was at the Adelaide International Raceway 250km enduro.<\/p>\n<p>In both races, eventual champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-290-Allan-Moffat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allan Moffat<\/a> (#1) led home teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-312-Colin-Bond\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Colin Bond<\/a> (#2) and Harvey.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice another theme has emerged: in every previous instance of consecutive numbers appearing on the podium, the race winner has become that year\u2019s champion.<\/p>\n<p>Excellent news for Anton De Pasquale, Team 18 and Chevrolet if that continues this year\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WE copped a few messages in the wake of last Saturday\u2019s race at the Dunlop Sydney 500 highlighting&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":509060,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[572],"tags":[64,63,806,805,803,804,85],"class_list":["post-509059","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-motosport","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-motor","tag-motor-sports","tag-motosport","tag-motosports","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/509059","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=509059"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/509059\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/509060"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=509059"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=509059"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=509059"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
