(ABC Landline)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Data released <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.horticulture.com.au\/globalassets\/hort-innovation\/australian-horticulture-statistics-handbook\/australian-horticulture-statistics-handbook-2024-25-nuts.pdf\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/externallink\/106396320\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this week by Hort Innovation<\/a> shows almond exports to China increased from 33,373 tonnes to 76,132 tonnes in the 2024-25 financial year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">India was the second-largest customer, taking 19,803 tonnes, which was similar to the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Loading&#8230;China dominates<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Jackson said China was consuming Australian almonds &#8220;in every which way you can think&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Value-added [almond] milk, snacking, processing, it&#8217;s such a diverse market,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;And the fact we can land them there with zero tariff, compared to the 50 per cent tariff that Californian almonds [are taxed], means we&#8217;ve got more and more Chinese buyers trying to source Australian almonds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A cup of coffee.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/ae021eb38ca56d447fceafab193ba903.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Demand for almond milk is taking off in China. (ABC News: Brett Worthington)<\/p>\n<p>Record harvest underway, sort of<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Australia is forecast to harvest a record almond crop this year of 167,000 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The harvest has started in some areas, but there are plenty of growers, including Jim Belehris from Cooltong in South Australia, who have been delayed by rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;I was due to start harvesting this morning but the timing [of this rain] could not have been worse,&#8221; he told the SA Country Hour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The almonds will dry up in the tree, so we&#8217;ll look at the weather later and go from there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We just need a small window of dry weather and we&#8217;ll get into it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Almonds on a conveyor belt.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/e771cd4ee38498aa275a7efcd145cbdd.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Australia is on track for a record almond harvest this year.
