(ABC News: Tony Hill)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">One Nation has previously announced some policies ahead of the state election, including a plan to amalgamate councils and crack down on the influence of lobbyists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Simms said he was concerned at the prospect of Labor, which is predicted to secure a decisive victory, winning control of both houses of parliament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;That means that they would be able to rush through legislation without due process,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Greens are eyeing the lower house seat of Heysen, as well as running an upper house ticket.<\/p>\n<p>AUKUS opposition<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The Greens have come under fire from political opponents for their plan to scrap the AUKUS nuclear submarine agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">They have also vowed to discontinue all South Australian government defence spending.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A submarine on the waterline.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/a58a0f1a6ddcd8e4106814049f8a1a0a.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The Greens want AUKUS funds redirected to bolster other industries. (ABC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Simms defended the position from an economic perspective, claiming AUKUS funding could be redirected and stimulate employment in other industries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Why aren&#8217;t we making trams here? Why aren&#8217;t we making trains here in South Australia?&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said his party also believed the AUKUS pact meant Australia would become too reliant on the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The Greens have advocated at a national level for us to have our own defence capability, independent of the United States,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Confidence in the team<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Simms said his party has pushed for action on the cost of living, the environment and a range of other issues that people care about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">But the last four years were not without their challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Last year, long-term Greens MLC Tammy Franks quit the party to sit as an independent \u2014 <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-05-13\/sa-greens-mp-tammy-franks-resign\/105286058\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105286058\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">claiming she was denied procedural fairness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">At the time, Mr Simms said he had &#8220;no idea&#8221; his former co-leader was going to resign, though he had been aware she had been feeling frustrated.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tammy Franks looking sideways from the camera in a pink blazer\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/c7531bbbac89eee081047191dd403856.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Tammy Franks quit the party last year. (ABC News: Marco Catalano)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">On Friday, he said while &#8220;it&#8217;s never a good look when a member of parliament leaves a political party&#8221;, her departure was not indicative of a wider problem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Asked whether there were cultural issues that needed to be addressed, Mr Simms said the party had done a review into its misconduct processes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;That review was robust and I think our internal processes are good and robust and, I think, people can have absolute confidence in the Greens&#8217; team,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Loading&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Minor parties are having a moment in South Australia.
