{"id":510793,"date":"2026-03-01T01:09:30","date_gmt":"2026-03-01T01:09:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/510793\/"},"modified":"2026-03-01T01:09:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-01T01:09:30","slug":"dylan-cease-records-3-strikeouts-in-blue-jays-spring-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/510793\/","title":{"rendered":"Dylan Cease records 3 strikeouts in Blue Jays spring debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DUNEDIN, Fla. &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/34943\/dylan-cease\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dylan Cease<\/a> gave up one run in 1\u2154 innings and recorded three strikeouts in his spring training debut with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/tor\/toronto-blue-jays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> on Saturday in a 7-5 win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/phi\/philadelphia-phillies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Phillies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a much-anticipated debut for Cease, who came to Toronto on a $210 million, seven-year contract.<\/p>\n<p>Cease struck out Phillies stars <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33712\/kyle-schwarber\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Schwarber<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/30951\/bryce-harper\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bryce Harper<\/a> in the first inning. He was relieved by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33108\/jesse-hahn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jesse Hahn <\/a>after giving up a solo homer to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/40787\/bryan-de-la-cruz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bryan De La Cruz<\/a> with two outs in the second.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old Cease signed with the Blue Jays following two seasons with the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"4dec648c-3eb9-055c-aebc-2711f30975a0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/sd\/san-diego-padres\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Padres<\/a>. The right-hander was 8-12 with a 4.55 ERA in 2025 and 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA in 2024. Cease has a 3.88 ERA and is 65-58 in seven seasons, including five with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/chw\/chicago-white-sox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago White Sox<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Rivera hit a two-run homer in a four-run sixth inning to give Toronto its first lead in the game.<\/p>\n<p>RJ Schreck, who scored on the Rivera homer, stole home in the seventh, completing the scoring.
