Australia\u2019s upcoming women\u2019s tour of the West Indies will no longer include a Test match as the final schedule was announced on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The initial plan for Australia\u2019s trip to the Caribbean later this month was to play a three-format series like they are currently playing against India, but they will instead play three ODIs and three T20s.<\/p>\n

The West Indies expressed their desire to prioritise white ball cricket ahead of the Women\u2019s T20 World Cup in England this June.<\/p>\n

But in doing so, turned their back on the opportunity to contest their first women\u2019s Test since 2004 and the first long-form clash between the two sides in 50 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur planning this year prioritises maximising white-ball readiness ahead of the ICC Women\u2019s T20 World Cup,\u201d Miles Bascombe, Cricket West Indies\u2019 director of cricket, said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis series forms a central part of that preparation, allowing us to concentrate resources and build combinations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe remain committed to the long-term growth of women\u2019s Test cricket, and discussions are already underway for a future red-ball opportunity, including a highly anticipated series against England in 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cricket Australia\u2019s head of scheduling and operations, Peter Roach, said that the two boards \u201cpursued every reasonable course\u201d to keep the Test on the schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, it was also important that this series be played in more than one venue ensuring the best possible facilities and varying conditions,\u201d Roach said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re grateful Cricket West Indies has worked within their constraints to make this happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cCA continues to support women\u2019s Test cricket while acknowledging the differing circumstances in some member nations and their desire to play and promote T20 cricket as they grow the women\u2019s game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Caribbean tour will mark the Australians\u2019 first overseas trip following the retirement of current captain Alyssa Healy, and the beginning of Sophie Molineux\u2019s era in charge across all formats.<\/p>\n

The spin bowling all-rounder took the reins for the T20 component of the current multi-format series against India, but has been sidelined by a back injury, which could put her in doubt for the West Indies tour.<\/p>\n
