In a cut-for-time sketch from the Feb. 28 episode of \u201cSaturday Night Live,\u201d a parade of opportunistic cancelled celebrities used last week\u2019s incident at the BAFTAs to blame their bad behavior and speech on Tourette syndrome.<\/p>\n
During the Feb. 22 BAFTAs ceremony, John Davidson, a Tourette syndrome advocate who was attending to support the nominated biopic about his life, \u201cI Swear,\u201d was seated near the stage. His involuntary outbursts<\/a> included a racial slur while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting, which led to Davidson apologizing<\/a> and the BAFTAs expressing regret<\/a> for not editing out the word on the original broadcast.<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/p>\n The \u201cSNL\u201d sketch featured a parade of celebrity impressions, which included Andrew Dismukes as Mel Gibson, Ashley Padilla as J. K. Rowling, show host Connor Storrie as Armie Hammer, Sarah Sherman as \u201cReal Housewives\u201d alum Jill Zarin, James Austin Johnson as Louis C.K., Kam Patterson as Ye, Kenan Thompson as Bill Cosby, and even \u201cWeekend Update\u201d anchor Michael Che jokingly playing himself.<\/p>\n \u201cI too suffer from Tourette\u2019s, which explains a lot of the things I\u2019ve said or yelled through the years,\u201d Dismukes-as-Gibson said. \u201cAm I proud of what I said? No. But I am very proud for you to know that it was because of Tourette\u2019s. Unfortunately, I\u2019m not alone.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHi cuties, I\u2019m Armie Hammer, and not many people know this, but one of the most common side effects of Tourette\u2019s is cannibalism,\u201d Storrie said. \u201cYou could be casually DMing with a girl, and suddenly, the Tourette\u2019s takes over, and you\u2019re typing stuff like, \u2018I\u2019m literally going to eat you\u2019, and she\u2019s like, \u2018Lol, what?’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTourette\u2019s isn\u2019t just blurting out an offensive word; it can be a years-long obsession with something like trans rights, and a deep anger that someone who is born with a wand in their pants would want that wand removed and replaced with a Horcrux,\u201d Padilla said. \u201cBut now you know, it was all the Tourette\u2019s fault, and not a bet I made with Bill Belichick to see who could destroy their legacy faster.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch the sketch below.<\/p>\n Best of Variety<\/p>\n Sign up for Variety’s Newsletter<\/a>.
