<\/p>\nAward-winning singer Delta Goodrem will fly the Australian flag at the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old pop icon will perform her new single Eclipse to a global audience of more than 160 million viewers at the Wiener Stadthalle in May. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The selection by Australian broadcaster SBS marks the 11th Australian Eurovision entry since its first in 2015.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so honoured to represent Australia on one of the biggest and most iconic music stages in the world at Eurovision! As a singer-songwriter, music has been my lifelong passion,” she said in a statement. \u00a0<\/p>\n
“I\u2019ve always loved the creativity, individuality, and joy Eurovision brings, connecting and uniting people across the globe through music; the universal language.<\/p>\n
“This song is about alignment \u2014 when things all come into the right place, and it felt like the right moment to represent Australia.”<\/p>\n

In 2003, Delta Goodrem released Australia’s biggest-selling album of the decade, and the second biggest-selling album of all time by an Australian artist in Australia. (Supplied)<\/p>\n
Goodrem signed her first recording contract with Sony Music at age 15 following her debut album Innocent Eyes, one of the highest-selling albums in Australian history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The album pushed Goodrem onto the global stage, producing five number one singles.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Over her three-decade career, Goodrem has sold millions of albums globally, including nine number one singles.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Delta Goodrem: ‘The right moment’<\/p>\n
Speculation on Goodrem taking the Eurovision stage has been circling for years.<\/p>\n
During a tour in London last year, Goodrem was asked if she would represent Australia in Eurovision.<\/p>\n
She said: “If the right moment happens, I’ll be there!”<\/p>\n
Months later, Goodrem got a call from SBS to join the international song competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“To mark this milestone [70th year], we wanted to send one of Australia\u2019s most iconic artists to the world\u2019s most iconic stage,” \u00a0SBS head of entertainment Emily Griggs said.<\/p>\n
“Her powerful voice is balanced by restraint and an openness that draws people in, creating performances that feel both intimate and expansive.”<\/p>\n
The “once in a generation artist” was praised by Australia\u2019s creative director for Vienna, Paul Clarke, for her elegant songwriting and unmatched vocal ability.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I can\u2019t wait to arrive in Vienna and make Australia proud,\u201d Goodrem said.<\/p>\n
She will perform during the second half of the second semifinal on Thursday, May 14.<\/p>\n
