Image: Glenis Lindley <\/p>\n<p>Ben Eggleston has revealed plans to bring the trio of Holdens back to life ahead of key anniversaries.<\/p>\n<p>Super2 team Eggleston Motorsport has an immense collection of famous V8 Supercars, including a swathe of machines built and raced by the factory squad.<\/p>\n<p>The three cars in question are currently undergoing restorations at the hands of ex-HRT fabricator George Smith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s 30 years since Craig Lowndes won Sandown and Bathurst in the 1996 HRT VR, so that one will come out around Bathurst,\u201d Eggleston told Speedcafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo will the [Peter] Brock \u201997 car, which was obviously on pole with Mark Skaife, and Craig\u2019s 1998 championship winner will be out as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we\u2019ve got three big ones coming up at the end of this year. It\u2019s going to be really busy getting them bang-on, but I\u2019m looking forward to getting them out so people can see them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1022638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/HRT-033-2022.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1213\" height=\"796\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The 1996 Bathurst winner pictured in 2022. Image: Eggleston Motorsport<\/p>\n<p>The Commodore debuted by Lowndes midway through 1996 is one of the most famous Aussie V8 touring cars ever, due to both its success and design.<\/p>\n<p>It features a roll-cage bar running diagonally to the passenger footwell that was included for chassis stiffness but banned in subsequent machines due to concerns over driver extraction.<\/p>\n<p>Unraced since a crash at the Gold Coast in 1999, Eggleston bought the car 10 years ago and has previously expressed a desire to get Lowndes back behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1022605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1997_Bathurst_Primus_1000_Peter_Brock_Mark_Skaife-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Bathurst 1000 will feature a Peter Brock festival to mark 20 years since his passing. Image: Glenis Lindley<\/p>\n<p>The 1997 Brock and 1998 Lowndes VS Commodores also had grim ends to their racing lives.<\/p>\n<p>Brock\u2019s car was heavily damaged when Todd Kelly crashed due to tyre failure at Eastern Creek in 1999, while the Lowndes VS was all-but destroyed at Oran Park in 2000 in the hands of Paul Morris.<\/p>\n<p>Eggleston finally convinced Morris to part with the wreckage of the Big Kev car in recent years in order to return it to its Lowndes HRT glory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1022606\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Lowndes-1998.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"800\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Craig Lowndes testing at Calder Park in 1998. Image: Supplied<\/p>\n<p>The weekend\u2019s Adelaide Motorsport Festival featured the public return of another long-time Eggleston pursuit \u2013 a HRT VT briefly raced by Lowndes in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>That car had been unseen for 22 years since its last race in the hands of Paul Romano.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got basically one model of every Craig Lowndes car at HRT \u2013 that was one that I needed and wanted,\u201d Eggleston explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wore down Bap Romano over a fair few years and Bap\u2019s a ripper bloke, he let it go along with a few other bits and [we\u2019ve] got it in the 2000 livery that Craig ran for a couple of rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI reckon it looks awesome, the red [makes it] a really striking car. Image: Supplied<\/p>\n<p>Lowndes\u2019 1995 Bathurst pole-winning VR was also among the Eggleston-owned V8 Supercars at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The stars of the show were Eggleston\u2019s 2010 Triple Eight Bathurst 1-2 Commodores, <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/supercars-news-adelaide-motorsport-festival-triple-eight-lowndes-whincup-vodafone-bathurst\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently restored to their TeamVodafone colours.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other HRT Commodores in the Eggleston collection include Lowndes\u2019 1999 Calder rollover car and the Bathurst 1000 winners from 1990 and 2005.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.cfjump.com\/92797\/b\/285241\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/285241.gif\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Craig Lowndes\/Greg Murphy Commodore at Bathurst in 1996.
